However, the line-in connection to your sound card is muted by default. This means that if you plug an audio device into this port, it will not produce any sound on your computer until you enable sound for the line-in connection. pcsyke_0.png
To enable sound for the line-in connection
  1. Open Audio Devices and Sound Themes by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking Sound.

I am wondering how i check if my laptop has a sound card? my friends ex built it and she doesnt think he placed a sound card in laptop at all. i have checked all troubleshooting on sound and devices and...

Almost all laptops have the sound card integrated into the motherboard.

If you have a headphone jack on the unit, you should have sound when you plug in some headphones or speakers.

If the sound is not working you will need to look in "Control Panel" and "Device Manager" in windows to be sure the system sees the sound hardware and if it is working correctly.

Also, please be sure the sound is not "muted" under Sounds and Audio Devices in "Control Panel"

Acer Aspire internal mic won't work.

You need to check the record settings and make sure the mic is not muted or turned down to low. Click START, CONTROL PANEL, then SOUND icon. Click the AUDIO tab up top. Make sure that your sound card is selected in the drop down menu under Sound Recording. Now click VOLUME tab. A new window will open up. Click OPTIONS then PROPERTIES. Make sure you have a check by the MIC and click OK. In the Recording Control window, turn the level up for Microphone and make sure it is not muted. Let me know what happens.
