Hi, I have background data and autosync both ticked in my phone's general sync settings so I can receive emails from my gmail account, but it has also autosynced my contacts so that now I only have email addresses in my contacts and can't find or access the phone numbers saved in my phone. It looks like the phone numbers are still saved somewhere as it recognises numbers with names when I receive calls. Where have my phone numbers gone and how can I access them? I think they are saved to my sim rather than the phone so is that the problem? It is causing quite a bit of frustration when I want to call someone not in my recent call log! Hoping you can help ... thanks in advance!

Try logging on to gmail from a desktop or laptop.
Click on the "Contacts" link on the top lefthand side.
Are all of your contacts listed there? Now select every contact that you want to see on your phone.
Click the 'Groups' button and select the group 'My Contacts'.
On your phone activate the 'sync contacts' again. You should now have all of the contacts you just selected on your phone.

This is happening not because of Gmail contacts sync. This happens due to setting in Contacts application which is not showing phone contacts.
To solve this problem, 1. Open Contacts from Menu 2. Press Menu button (first button on phone), select "view" 3. You will see option to view phone contacts, gmail contacts,Facebook contacts (if you have setup Facebook) etc. 3. Check "Phone " and you will see phone numbers also in contacts.
TIP: You can check " Only show contacts with phone number" to hide email only contacts.
Reply in case of any problem.

Why can I not send or receive emails from my Gmail account

For starters, can you try some troubleshooting techniques to see if your can fix the problem?
  • Remove Gmail Account and setup again
    • Phone Setting> Accounts> Google> Select your email account> "Remove account"
    • Re-establish account.
  • Clear your App's cache and data
    • Open Phone settings> Select Application manager> Swipe to "All"> Choose Inbox> Clear cache and data
  • Make sure that Background data is enabled
    • Phone settings> Data Usage> Scroll down to Inbox and make sure that "Restrict background data" is not selected.
  • Try Syncing over WIFI only( Airplane mode) or Over your network only.
Lastly, if none of those options worked, try re-enabling the notifications for your bundles to see if notifications start to come through for any of your mail.

My android use my recharged airtime without using it

There are background processes that do this. I'd guess that it's primarily synchronization doing this.
for an unrooted phone (which yours probably is)
In ICS, JB and KK, go to settings / accounts /[probably google] and you will see the account(s) you used to setup your device.
Click your account and you will see a list of services, potentially with boxes ticked to the right. ticked (or checked) means "synchronize". Turn off the ones you don't want. If you want some things just synchronized when you're on wifi (so not using your $$$) check out AutoSync
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.redwolf.autosync
Some of your data is also being used by advertisements. Yhe worst offenders are the "push" advertisers who put things on your screen whether the app is running or not. All you can really do us uninstall

for a rooted phone:
install afwall+.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.ukanth.ufirewall
You can set per-application internet permissions (wifi, 3/4g, roaming). Not just synchronization - everything.

Gmail not syncing in HTC Dream

  • Go to 'Setting', choose 'Data Synchronization', choose 'Data Synchronization' again, then make sure that the 'Background Data', 'Auto-sync', & 'Gmail' boxes are checked.
  • Go to 'Gmail', press the 'Menu' button on the front of the phone, select 'Settings', choose 'Labels', make sure 'Number of days to sync' is reasonable (i.e. 4 days, or 7 days, something that makes sense).
  • Back in the Gmail inbox, press the 'Menu' button on the front of the phone, choose 'Refresh'.
  • You should get your mail. Double check with the desktop version of Gmail.
