Won't move brand new sprinkler - John Deere Gilmour Traveling Sprinkler - 4010j

I have a brand new orbit traveling sprinkler and the wheels won't move - they're frozen. The directions say to "Pull out the stopper underneath the sprinkler between the back wheels ..." and there is a white knob attached to a spring. When I try adjusting that, the wheels stay locked, frozen, won't move. What am I doing wrong?

Is this a sprinkler timer?

Most major brands are linked here, including manuals for each.
Some brands such as yardworks, etc, repackage other brands and have no online support or clear resolution for warranty claim.
Open link, then add a comment with brand and model and voltage so expert can access same manual.
Replace battery. Reset timer. Check if unit is getting power. Check if outlet has correct polarity. Are some basic troubleshoot steps.
Most timers have 1 year limited warranty, and timer that came with used house may no longer be functioning. Or the sprinkler hear has gone bad.
For replacement, I think Intermatic mechanical sprinkler timers are better value than digital timers, since the mechanicals have repair motors and trippers and can last 25 years.

continuous velocity joint going bad (CV JOINT). will need to be replaced, may go out at anytime, or may last a good while. likely reason is boot was cracked and grease was lost, so over time the joint gets heat cracked, and eventually breaks and bearings come loose leaving veh imobile (won't effect engine, wheels just won't move)

I just had the same thing happen to me. You have to turn the arms counter clockwise...opposite of the tightening bolts, and have them pointing in opposite directions to get it to turn. If the unit moves backwards, turn them another 180deg to the opposite directions, and it should go forward.

Too heavy a hose can cause this (after 20 minutes, there's just too much hose behind the sprinkler to drag any further).
If the unit shuts off entirely, the sprinkler could be hitting the top of the hose (wheels digging into soft soil) and tripping the auto shutoff under the unit. (Mine does this every once in a while).

My sprinkler did (something like) this a couple of times (very infrequently) - the arms seemed "seized" (cannot rotate clockwise or counter clockwise) but, I was able to get them moving again by picking up the sprinkler (a couple of inches) by the sprinkler arm T-pipe. Picking it up this way, vertically, seemed to "un-stick" the arms.

Of course, if your sprinkler is very old (12 years?) the gear box may be worn, it would cost about a quarter to a third as much as a brand new sprinkler to replace. You can find the parts you need by reading the question about where to get parts at FixYa.
