Yes they can, I see it pretty often. Unscrew it from the wire and test it for continuity with a multimeter. Always do this before you test the coil. And if you test the coil, test it w/out the cap on. Good luck!

My 05 Jeep Liberty have a rough idle and the plugs have been changed

2005, is old, the cop boot are bad too that old
boots are $15 each an 10x less than coil + boot.
best is replace the,
spark is first, cant burn fuel (gas) with bad spark.
my guess if you scanned it , you'd see P0300 errors, means all fail.
or see P0301 and only coil #1 or boot is bad.
or injector #1 is bad. scan it.
not scanning the PCM means wild expensive gue$$ing
beg, barrow, rent ,buy the tool or get is scanned in any shop USA>
most COPs replaced where never bad, HV wires/boots/plugs yes.
there are other causes.
  • bad engine, (cant be fixed with new cops or injectors)
  • bad spark
  • bad injections means fueling problems

I say why fear scan tools?
the pay for them selves, that first time used, it is now a free scanner.. see how that works? ROI?
saved from shop labor
saved from THROWN parts not bad..? Do it first .
even blown fuses,(o2 sensor fuse blown)???? check fuses.

When driving my 2006 hyundai elantra the spark plug wire boot pops up and when i go to insert the boot back in it stays but when i drive my car the spark plug boot pops out again causing bad vibration

I can think of three possibilities and only one of those is a defective spark plug - unlikely but possible that combustion gas is leaking between the electrode and insulator and the pressure builds inside the plug boot until it is pushed off.

It is also possible the female terminal inside the plug boot is damaged or of poor quality.

Possibly the plug boot isn't being fully pushed home on the plug.

I find it is sometimes best to work some silicone grease between the lead and boot until the boot can be slid back up the lead exposing the terminal which can then be fitted securely to the plug and the boot then slid down the lead onto the plug.

You must change the spark plugs and check the coil boots for cracks the miss is the + jumping to ground from a cracked plug or bad plug boot or ignition wires which ever you have

2002 Evinrude 25hp 3cyl 4 stroke does not seem to peek rpm & speed

Prolly a dead cylinder , on dry land run the motor with water supply of course . Remove the engine cover and start the motor, with spark plug boot pliers or similar tool start removing the spark plug boots one at a time . If you notice a difference when one is unplugged that's the working clyinder. Do this to all 3 when you find the cylinder that makes no noticeable difference when it's unplugged you found part of the issue. Bad plug bad plug wire , bad coil ect . Good luck

Miss fire on 4 on mazda m6 and check engine light is on and flickers when i drive to work

your car should have on the plug coils that means there really isn't a spark plug wire just a boot and a spring on top of the spark plug. I have seen a lot of them even my own car over time the boot will crack allowing spark from the conducter spring to leak out and arc around the plug tube. I would start with new spark plugs and boots they are not that expensive and you can do it on your own. Let me know if you need info on doing it.

Plugged in but not charging

Plugged in but not charging? What's not charging, the battery? If so, the battery is dead.

Are you saying the power cord is plugged in but the computer is not powering up?

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, Remove the cover that houses the memory then remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

Not firing properly after sparkplugs were changed.

Bad wires or bad connection between boot and plug. Dielectric grease can help with boot to plug connection.

Also you may want to recheck the gap on the plugs.

You can unplug one wire at a time while running to see which plug has the problem.

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar w/3.8 V-6. The codes state that #5 cyl has a misfire. I just changed the plugs, put new plug wires on & installed 4 new O2 senors. What else should I be looking for?

Double check the plug wires, if the boot to the plug wire was not installed with spark plug boot lube. It may have pulled away from the plug just enough to make it a bad connection. Go back and push on the plug wire boot to the spark plug and make sure the wires are routed properly and not touching anything other then the separator that hold the wires in place. The other thing would be a dirty injector ir an bad wire to the injector. Start with te plug boots and routing. Good luck friend, I have a Montana and same thing here, take me longer to ensure that all the plug wires are set then to replace the plugs.
