Riding only on an old Craftsman riding mower, when all of a sudden the forward motion stops, but the blades are still engaged and everything seems fine, other than it's no longer moving forward. The brake is not on, the clutch is not in, none of the gears work. Turn the mower off and it can be pushed backward and forward without issue. Restart mower and still everything will run, except the mower won't move. Any idea what's wrong?

Check out the grass box safety switch. if not fully depressed it will apply brakes to the blades when in gear. Most mowers are designed with a safety switch to stop the blades, or forward motion if the grass box is not fitted correctly.
I would lower the deck to the lowes setting and look between the frame and the deck toward rear wheels and check the drive belt it sounds like it is slipping or busted.
motor off= deck engaed turn blade should turn motor and belt fairly easy, NO remove the belt from the motor pulley with deck engaged blades should turn freely.
most decks have breaks on the pullies so if the deck is not engaged the break will be on
It sounds as though your seat safty switch may have failed. If you tilt the seat forward you will see a wire harness connector that attaches to the safty switch, disconnect the conntector and try engaging the blades.
You did'nt mention the year or model # of the tractor so at this point my recommendation is based of the average tractor with a mechanical blade lever.
Try the suggestion and let me know.
