My Amana heat pump model PTH153B50AJ does not cool properly. The compressor comes on and the fan works.

  • Anonymous Jun 14, 2011

How old is the unit? Are both fans working inside and outside? Is the outside condenser coil clean or clogged up with something?

  • nedbramuchi Jun 14, 2011

The unit was installed new in 2006.

This sounds like a freon problem your system probably has a leak in the system somewhere. Amana has tons of problems with there equipment. They make there coils paper thin and they split especially on a heatpump. Amana used to be a good brand and then got bought out by goodman manufacturing and have turned there product into ****. How old is this unit?

Hear pump keeps running constantly, why won't it shut off?

if some units detect ice they will leave the fan running in an attempt to defrost the coils. If it's the outside coils and it's warm enough inside, try running the air conditioning for a few minutes, that will put hot coolant through the coils and could melt the ice for you.

Assuming this is a heat pump I'm guessing you have a bad temp sensor. Your outdoor fan is likely controlled by a temp sensor so it only runs as needed during heating. Fan not coming on and compressor still needs cooled therefore compressor protection kicking in?????

I am working on a Amana PTH123A35AB and when turned to cooling the fan and compressor kick on but it does not blow cold air. What should I check for?

Check for pressure in the refrigeration lines because if all fans are working and the compressor is running it should be cooling. Most of the time the system is flat or severly low on freon which would mean a major leak somewhere. But first hook up guages to the system and let me know what you find ok.

Verify all your components are operating - Compressor? Condenser fan motor? Blower fan motor?
If not check voltage to any that are not operating.
If all components are operating and the coils are clean - the refrigerant level is most likely low.

I have an amana package system heat pump model number phb30c02e , sometimes the indoor blower will not kick on thus making no air come in the home at all throught the vents, i tried a new copasitor and ...

Sometimes the thermostat can have a burnt place in the fan contacts. This stops the interior fan motor because the compressor wiring is not interconnected to the interior fan. The compressor command is the yellow wire. The interior fan command arrives from the thermostat on the green wire. Check the green wire for delivering 24 volts AC to the fan relay.

During heat, the heat is electrically interconnected with the interior fan. Thus, if the thermostat is bad, the fan will work properly during heating. I know July is a bad time to turn the heat on, but this is a method to see if the interior fan works properly and is not getting the proper command during cooling.
