On my computer there are numbers under the letters u,i,o,p,j.k.l.m. Right now when I use my keyboard those numbers show up instead of the letters I want to use. Can you help me? The computer is an IBM...

locate the FN key... also look for a key having a numerical keypad icon on it. Hold down the FN key and press that other key.

Instead of typing the letters jkl the numbers 6 etc are being typed. What do I need to do or press so that the key board reverts back to typing letters instead of numbers.

press fn (lower left of keyboard) + numlk(upper right)

Keyboard error

Look for a Num Lock button on the keyboard, press that and then check to see if its still going to give you numbers. If it still does, press it again.

You need to press the NUM Lock key.
The NUM lock key is usually the same key as the ScrLk key but to select the NUM lock you need to press and hold down the Shift key and then press the NumLk/ScrLk key. A LED light will light up to indicate the number keypad is on.

Compaq Presario C700 numbers showing up instead of letters

Either address your "Num Lock" Key keyboard or your "Fn" Key on your keyboard. Either of these, or a combination of both should solve the issue.

When I want to type a letter,say P, the * shows up instead. I don't know how to get rid of these signs showing up instead of letters and numbers that I really need for typing. Please help if you can.

Just push the NUMSLOCK button to deactivate it. The light indicator should be off. and there u go

Hello,

If this is happening only on the right side of you keyboard this usually means that the Number Lock (Num Lock) was turned on.

To turn in off simply select the "Fn + Num Lock" buttons to disable it.
