The sunroof on my mini cooper s 2007 won't open when I push the button, but when I tap the window it will. What's causing it to stick?

are you sitting on the keys or leaning on the open button on your key fob.. press and hold button to open all windows. press and hold lock button should close all windows also.. something simple as this perhaps?

Sounds like something has let go like a shaft or rod the is in thge mecinism.

Some sunroofs have a open switch like the drivers window. You push it and the window will open automaticly. The button on your sunroof could be jammed so even though you can close it as soon as you release it, it will auto open on it's own.

is this electric? If so, can you hear the motors try to turn or hum? Do your car lights dim a bit when trying to open the window? If so, motor is good and roof is stuck to to debris or stick seal and will need some assistance with someone pressing firmly on the window and someone pushing the button. Also make sure seal is not stuck together. If you can not hear the motor check the fuse. If fuse is good, use an ohmmeter to test switch and if needed the power to the roof motor

Does the light start blinking when it stops? If it does it could be because the back piece in the trunk is not sitting correctly. There is a small latch that it needs to sit on and press down. If it is not sitting properly the roof will not open. I believe it is on the left hand side and it is very small and unnoticeable but that might be what is wrong

Could it be that you are doing this? Mini has a feature where if you hold down the unlock button on the key for a few seconds the windows will drop...and a few more seconds the sunroof opens.
It happened to me a few times

gears in nuetral,handbrake on, key in first position, then move roof.if only the handbook was that clear eh!

The top down function is a two step process...1- hold button until sunroof is all the way open then release button. 2- Press and hold button again until top goes all the way down.

If you try this and it still doesn't work , note the light on the button. If it's flashing it indicates a fault... most likely an obstruction. Check that latches on rear cargo shelf are firmly latched. Check that parcel shelf is firmly down. (open and firmly close all three of these things and try again)

either have a bad switch or motor. need to test for power and or grounds comming in and out of switch

often times this problem ends up needing a front sunroof section of the conv top replaced. The cable that drives the hooks to unlatch is most likely broken and that is currently the only fix. EXPENSIVE. Sorry
