Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

My Nikon Coolpix S230 only takes blank pictures? I can view previously taken photos, but all new ones turn out black..?

The cc circuitry that controls the lens aperture and focus has malfunctioned, the repairs are not cost effective to fix. The only option is replacement "the cheaper way"

Lens error what to do

You're gonna need a lens replacement.

If you're out of warranty, there are third party place that replace them such as camera lens repairs.

If you want to do it yourself, there are also free camera repair guide websites that show you how to replace the lens, the replacement part is usually available on ebay.

"Lens Error" on Nikon Coolpix S230

Sorry, but there's no simple DIY fix, and any homebrew repair attempts will likely make the damage worse. Your camera's warranty won't cover the damage, so I suggest that you take it to a local camera shop (NOT the camera department in a chain store) or contact customer service via the nikon.com web site to arrange repair. Be sure to get a firm price before you commit to anything though. The fix can easily approach the price of a new camera, and repairs typically only carry a 30-day warranty.

Nikon Coolpix: lens goes in and out of focus, then LENS ERROR

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
