If you have another machine to test on try plugging it into it and see if it works. If it does, then on the laptop power it off unplug the power cable, then take out the battery and let it sit for a few minutes, the put battery back in and connect power cable and restart machine. It should start working again.

Reading usb

If you are inserting the USB into a PC and it does not automatically recognize it go to "My Computer" then look for it there under "Devices with removable storage"
Click on the device and that should allow you to access you have on that USB.
If you are installing hardware with a USB connection, then you may have to go to the "Control Panel" then look for "Hardware and Sound" then "Devices and Printers" and then you can either install the device or the printer from there if you have the software for it.

My HP 625 laptop is turning all my external memory files into shortcuts and creates some weird shotcuts to...none of the shortcuts work and i can only veiw whats on my memory card or usb if i search that...

When you plug a mass storage device in a USB or other ports, the OS gives it a drive letter E,F,G, H. I ... If you insert it another time it will give it a drive letter that may be different from the previous one because some other device plugged in has that drive letter. It may also happen if you change USB port.

So if you created shortcuts that pointed to one device that had driver letter G, they are no longer be valid if when you inserted it again the OS refers to the device with another letter.
Insert a device in the same USB port. If you have to plug in many devices try to plug them in in the same order. This may save your shortcuts, but there is no guarrantee it will be so.

If you are looking for a file you know is on a device, just use the Window explorer and point to it.

Why doesnt it show on computer when i plug it in

What kind of flash drive and computer are u working with? Let me know and I may be able to give u a more accurate answer. Try inserting another device in that USB port and check to see if ur computer is recognizing it in your device manager. Click on Start Tab then Go To Settings , Control Panel Then Click on System Icon , Then Click on the Hardware Tab and Click on Device Manager, scroll down to see if there are any yellow question marks or flags? Leave that Device manager window open and try to re insert your flash drive again and see what response u get?

Slow computer

I think what you are talking about is that the usb device could run faster if inserted into a USB 2.0 slot. If your computer does not have USB 2.0 (which yours does not) you will just have to live with a tad less speed when transfering files to the usb device. No beg, and you probably would not notice the difference.

Please rate this response.
