Make sure the wireless card driver is installed and working.
Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

I have no idea what most of this means. Please give me the "version for computer idiots". Step by step would be helpful.
    Thanks,

Because you have not supplied sufficient information I cannot give you a step by step instructions.
For your computer to connect to your wireless network you need to supply me with the make and model of your wireless router and also the make and model of your cable or DSL modem.
Do you have the instruction manual and installation CD for your wireless router and modem?
Did your Internet Service Provider supply any documentation and installation CD?

    I forgot to ask.
Did you install the wireless card driver on your T40 ThinkPad, do you know if it is enabled and working?

I cant get wi-fi on my acer 5742-7620 dont know what username or password and defult means or how to get an ip addres or even my pin number is or what networks im looking for i live in winkleman arizona

Rachael,

YYou need the SSID (network name) and password of the wireless network you are trying to connect to. If you don't have this information, there is a 99% chance you will not be able to connect. If you don't have access to a wireless network, go to any computer store and buy a wireless router to connect to your home network. The login information for the router will be included.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A PSP FROM BEST BUY AND I CAN'T FIND THE AOSS BUTTON ... COULD SOMEONE PLEASE ASSIST ME WTH THIS?

AOSS button is not found on your PSP or PS3. It is found on more expensive ROUTERS
AOSS is what you would see on some high end routers. if your routers doesn't support this method or have this button you can't set up your psp using it.

The PSP does not have an AOSS button. AOSS (AirStation OneTouch Secure System) is used for wireless setup of devices to your network. AOSS button is found on your router IF it has this feature. If it does not then more than likely your router does not have the ability to set devices up in this manner.

1)To use this set up for the PSP go to Settings>Network Settings> Internet Setting> (Method) Custom> (Select Connection Method) Wireless- ( Setting) Auto - AOSS. At this point the PSP will tell you to push the button on the router and that you have two minutes or else the attempt to connect will stop.

********************* NOTICE **********************
Again this only works if your router has this button. and it is not found on your ps3 or psp

so you'll need to set it up differently. if your home is set up with wireless router and yourare connected online wirelessly read along....

JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO HAVE A WIRELESS HOME NETWORK... it definitely wont work if you don't have a wireless setup and u are trying to connect wirelessly. people overlook this no brainer.

1) go to Settings
2) Network Settings
3) Internet Setting. confirm on "O.K."
4) easy *it may or may not give you a message reading "checking network configuration"
5) wireless

from this point on you need to know few things about your network.....

6) scan -- once scanned it'll give you other wirelss access point for you home network and some other near your home along with few information such as SSID (which is what you set your network to be -- i.e. "the jones" or "linksys" or "summer home" or "my connection" etc etc) SECURITY (this is the password you set up your network with) SIGNAL STRENGHT (usually your network will be the strongest among your neighbors since you are closer to your router)
7) highlight your network and press x . (you should know what it is) selecting on the other network will probably not do you any good since it'll probably be all locked with password and such and so should yours be.
8) SSID which means service set identifier basically mean the name of your network. if your home network is set up with security and password your home network will not show up under SSID (this is one of the things you need to know about your home network)
9) on WLAN SECURITY SETTING page (this is another thing you should know about your home network or ask the person who set it up) -- most people i deal with have a WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK security password yours may be different so choose the one that you used.
10) WPA KEY - which basically means password. input the password you used to set up your home network (this is another thing you should know about your home network or ask the person who set it up)
**it'll give you "checking network configuration"
11) if you input all the correct info you should get the "setting list" screen
12) press "X" to save the setting
13) do the connection test and if all things were entered correctly you should have success.

all this seems complicated just reading but if you follow it step by step its easy. you just need to know the name of your home network, the home network security setting, and the password of your home network.

I want to know how to connect my ssid pasphrase located on the back of my router and when i tried to conect it to my ps3 conole it said it was weak and it couldnt find the acess point or something so can...

i'm going to assume that you are asking "how to connect your ps3 to your home network?"
if your home is set up with wireless modem or router and your computers are connected wirelessly its pretty simple to set up. more likely you or someone who set it up probably set it up securely meaning with security key and password. So you do have to know few things about your home network. like what is the name of your home network (SSID). the security setting of your home network. and finally the password of your network. if you don't know these things about your home network you will not be able to get connected wirelessly. but if you do have these info on hand read along....

JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO HAVE A WIRELESS HOME NETWORK... it definitely wont work if you don't have a wireless setup and u are trying to connect wirelessly. people overlook this no brainer.

Turn on your ps3 and from the XMB...
1) go to Settings
2) Scroll down to Network Settings and press X
3) Scroll down to Internet Connection Setting and press X. confirm on "O.K."
4) easy *it may or may not give you a message reading "checking network configuration"
5) wireless

6) scan -- once scanned it'll give you wirelss access point for you home network and some other near your home along with few information such as....

7) highlight your network and press x . (you should know what it is) selecting on the other network probably wont do you any good since it'll probably be all locked with password and such. yours should also be locked and have password on it too.
8) SSID which means service set identifier basically mean the name of your network. if your home network is set up with security and password your home network will not show up under SSID (this is one of the things you need to know about your home network. if you don't know ask the person who set up your home network)

all this seems complicated just reading but if you follow it step by step its easy. you just need to know the name of your home network, the home network setting, and the password of your home network.

on the other hand if you are setting up a wired connection it makes it a whole lot simpler. you don't need to know your network name, security key, and password.

make sure you have the ethernet cable plugged in to your ps3 and to your modem or router

1) go to Settings
2) Network Settings
3) Internet Connection Setting. confirm on "O.K."
4) easy *it may or may not give you a message reading "checking network configuration"
5) wired
6) auto-detect
7) automatic -- for the IP address setting
8) do not set
8) automatic -- DNS setting
9) automatic -- MTU
10) do not set -- PROXY SERVER
11) ENABLE -- UPNP
save connection setting
test connection

if your home network is set up and u got the ps3 connected it should work

I am trying to connect Netflix to my Wii and I keep getting error code 51330 and 51331. I don't know what these errors are. I am trying to set up with wireless internet.

From Nintendo:
Error Code 51330, 51331, and 51332
It appears that the wireless security pass code for your home network may have been changed or is entered incorrectly on the Wii console. Click here for more information about WEP and WPA security, including how to access the settings for your Access Point.
If your wireless network password isn't wrong, reply. Hope this helps somewhat.

I have the GT 15510M samsung phone, howdo i connect to the internet from my wireless at home?

Your mobile has a built it Wireless Fidelity or WI-FI module enabling to catch ata over wireless networks.

By turning ON your wi-fi, it will search wireless network along the nearest location of yours. Once you found a network(s), just open it and wait until established and connected, but some authenticating connection never allows you to connect because it needs a password encryption.so you won't able to patch the network if you do not know the code.

If you have a broadband installed at home, you need a wireless router that can supply internet connection using your mobile phone via wi-fi,just easily series the broadband connection thru a wireless router and also add encryption like WEP key to ensure you are the only one catching the connection.

please state your broadband if any so that i can guide you the procedure in installing your wireless router connection.

If you have some questions, don't hesitate to reply cause i will glad accomodate any comments.

I have a Arris TM722 modem and I need to know my SSID number and password? please help me!

An SSID is the name of your wireless network connection and doesn't have to be a number. As I don't believe that this modem supports wireless connectivity, it should not prompt you for an SSID or a password. If the modem is plugged into a wireless router however, and a wireless network has been set up, the SSID will be related to the wireless router.

Generally most devices can scan for the SSID when attempting to connect to a wireless connection. If there is an "automatic" setting or a "find networks" button, you can try that and choose your wireless connection from the list provided. For a password, you may need to ask whomever helped set up your wireless network.

Cannot get google account on my defy says cant find reliable connection to server. what can i do to make it work. and it says that: "this could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be...

If you haven't configured your phone to access the internet yet, and you want to do it through your network carrier's data plan, bear in mind their APN settings. Contact they, in case you don't know such data. Then, go to 'Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Access Point names'. Once there, press 'Menu > New APN', and fill in a 'Name' for it, and, at least, your carrier's data under 'APN', 'Username' and 'Password'. Then, press 'Menu > Save'. Press the back button as many times as required for you to reach the home screen you were in, prior you started making these changes.

On the other hand, if you want to access the internet through wifi (e.g. your home's wireless network, or an internet cafe), go to 'Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks' and tick the 'Wi-Fi' checkbox, in order to turn your phone's wifi radio on. Then, tap 'Wi-Fi settings', and, if the network you want to connect your phone to doesn't appear on the available networks list (e.g. a hidden network), tap 'Add Wi-Fi' network' and fill in 'Network SSID', select the security method, and fill in the password, if needed. When you finish, tap 'Save'. You can also specify how your phone will use its wifi radio. Tap 'Menu > Advanced > 'Wi-Fi sleep policy'. Again, press the back button as many times as required to return to the home screen.
Hope it works for you.

Anyway, please, let me know if I can help you any further.

Regards,
Carlos

IBMThinkPad T40 Wont connect to wireless networks.

Hello, if you see a yellow exclamation mark it means device drivers are not installed or are incorrect.
below is the link for IBM/Lenovo site that lists all the drivers for Thinkpad T40/T41. Go to that linkand scroll down to " Wireless Networking" and select the appropriate drivers: eg: Make sure it under T40 section, and not T41 since they are listed side by side.
since i am not sure which exact wireless card your T40 has i am posting this main link where it lists all options.
I would start with "ThinkPad 802.11bg wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter" if this doesn't work try next one in the list.
    here is the link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-46258.html#wireless

I hope this helps, let me know if there is a problem.

    Kind reagrds,
