We have an old LG HDD DVD recorder. We are currently recording all our videos onto the hard drive and transfering them onto disc, but apparently there's some sort of code that won't allow any disc recorded on the LG to play on any other machine. Even a PS 3. So if we lose this machine it's all been for nothing. Is there any way we can get rid of it ? It's a DBRH197. Thanks.

I recorded video from my Sony Handycam to the RH387H HDD and then wrote the video onto a DVD-R disc using the XP setting (instead of SP, LP.....). The disc can only playback now on the LG387H, but cannot...

make sure the disk is finalised after recording, if this does not help then the bit-rate it uses for xp may not be compatable with other dvd players, in which case stick to sp,lp or dual-layer sp is best if ou can.

How do I transfer recordings off my lg hdd RH1999H to my laptop? Is it even possible?

The generic answer is yes you can. You will need to use a software app like Pinnacle Studio V10.5 onwards (currently V14) or similar II think that Roxio have a product too) that will take raw video format from the DVD Player / recorder and convert it to MPEG2 files that you can then convert to any other format. You can then edit them and put them back tot he DVD Player / Recorder in the correct format for viewing on TV. This will also allow you to burn customised discs with TV content etc.

LG RH177 - Cannot read discs....

Well, to solve the problem quick, I actually called in the service guy. Over here, LG comes to the door, but at an extra $40 bucks excluding parts. What I realise is that the drive is very easy to install, so could have just bought the part and installed myself, saving the $40.
With a DVD drive, it is hard to pinpoint the problem. And it being so cheap (old tech/over supply), most service centres would just replace the whole thing.

Why doesn't DVD disc play on my computer?

Hello again

I don't know what gear you are using or exactly what you want to do, but I assume you want to put some of your old video vhs tapes or something you have borrowed, on to your computer.

Your DVD/HDD recorder will probably support DVD-R as well as DVD-RAM unless you are very unlucky. If it's a Panasonic it will definitely support DVD-R. DVD-R are reasonably cheap these days so you could use them for recording instead of DVD-RAM, then easily play them on your computer's drive. You would have the added advantage of a back up disc as well. If you want to edit first, use the HDD on the highest quality setting then transfer your edited work to a DVD-R..

Alternatively, you could buy an external dvd drive for your computer that supports -RAM, such as Icy Box or similar. External drives are reasonably priced and if you plan to transfer a lot of video, it would be a worthwhile investment.

Yes, you could probably connect the DVR direct you your computer but you would need an appropriate media card plus suitable software.

Good luck....hope this helps...

Recording problem with LG RH266 Recorder.

If the DVD is copy right protected then it won't record. By this I mean, you can't simply rent a DVD at Blockbuster and transfer it to the Hard Drive (use a computer to do this instead). Try using a DVD that is not protected, like a home video or a cd with MP3s

LG HDD/DVD Recorder RH177

Hi. I have this machine and it will only fast transfer if the original hdd recording has NOT been edited (i.e part deleted/divided/combined). This is also in the manual p51/52.

Hope this helps.
