Looks like you'll need a converter.

Here's some background info:

Analog TVs were made up until 2007.

Digital tuners for over the air signals are called "ATSC tuners".

To tell if your TV has one:

-If the TV was sold as a "HDTV" or "DTV", it's supposed to have an ATSC tuner built in to it. "HD ready TVs" do not have a digital tuner.

-Check the specs in the owners manual or google the make & model of the TV to see if it has an ATSC tuner.

-If your TV's menu has an option for scaning for digital channels, then it has an ATSC tuner. If it dosen't have a way to scan for digital channels, then it doesn't have a digial tuner.

Most DTVs also have a digital QAM tuner that is used in some (but not all) cable systems.

What specific model of JVC multi-system TV do you have? What is the signal source?

The majority of the JVC multi-system TVs that I've researched only have analog tuners (NTSC, PAL). The AV-29LX is an example of the older JVC TVs. Since most over-the-air signals are digital, you will need a digital-to-analog OTA signal converter to watch any signal from an aerial TV. If you have a cable system that has upgraded to digital cable, you will need a cable box.

Converter boxes are harder to find but there are a few remaining. Here's one for the US: http://www.amazon.com/Magnavox-DTV-Digital-Analog-Converter/dp/B0013ZKZGU .

I wish that I had better news for you.

(A few low-power stations still broadcast in the analog format. However, you have to be really close to the station or have an outdoor antenna to have a chance at receiving the signal.)

Do I need to buy a digital converter box to watch tv on an outside antenna?

Yes, Even FreeView, requires a "Decoder" Box with an external Antenna attached, and the signal is fed from that, to the TV through the AV, External Inputs, ON TV, essentially making it a monitor, for the "Decoder" The Channels, Volume, are changed on the "Decoder".

DO I NEED A DIGITAL CONVERTER TO OPERATE A 4 YEAR OLD JVC MODEL AV-32D305 WITH AN ANTENNA?

If you have cable running to your house, cable still uses RF and older TVs work fine. The problem comes when you try to grab stations from the air. The signal is still UHF, but the information riding on that UHF signal is digital, and will need a converter box to turn it back to analog so your older TV will understand it. . Cable: None needed. . Antenna: Need a box.

Does the JVC AV27230 require a digital to analog converter?

if you are going to continue using the rooftop antenna, then you will nee to purchase a digital converter box. Those television sets are only analog. You do have an option to get Directv or Dish network and you will not need a converter box at all. Directv and Dish network are 100% Digital and the receivers work as converter boxes for that product only.

Conversion boxes-Do I need one with an outside atenna?

you will need a converter box if you do not have a digital ready television. If you have a digital television, then no you do not need one. make sure of the type antenna you have, as there are uhf only and vhf only and combined uhf/vhf. if you only have a uhf only antenna you may be missing out on channels.

Will the JVC TV model AV-27820 mfg 1997 become obsolete i n February?

It will still work fine if you have cable or satellite. If you are using an antenna to receive broadcast signal you will need to get a digital converter box from an electronics store like Best Buy. You can get discount coupons from the federal government good for 40 dollars towards the converter. Google "Digital Covnverter Coupon Program" and it should give you a link to the site to apply for up to 2 coupons.

Jvc model digital ready

I'm sorry, but this model is not digital. You will need a converter box if you use an antenna.
