My refrigerator part of my whirlpool side by side refr. is not cooling. It runs all the time. The freezer part is not freezing on the top part. The lowest portion of the freezer has ice and frost on the sides.

there is a motor with a flapper that opens and closes to keep your temp correct in the refrigerator side most likely the motor is bad and stuck open so your air from the freezer has constant flow to the refr side. the flapper is in the back of the refr behind a cover where the air flows in.

most refregerator..usually open the door at day time..so it will not keep on required temperature o degreefrequent opening refrigerator,must be adjust the thermostat to higher setting..

Is your milk or eggs freezing? All the cooling in the refrig and freezer spaces is done in the freezer. Sometimes, the control labeled freezer temp controls a vent between the freezer and ref space, allowing air into the ref side. the other control determines run time. try turning thefrz setting up to raise the ref temp.

Sounds like the defrost timer is not tracking the time properly. The unit needs to defrost once every 6-8 hrs. in order to work. Make sure the inside (evaporator) fan is running ok. If it rund for a few days and then warms up in the refrigerator section (coil iced), then the defrost timer is the culprit.

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

If this is the model I am thinking about, you have the same compressor for each side. There should be a vent or opening that you can adjust to let cool air inside the refrigerator. Find it and adjust. You may have this opening blocked by something. Let me know if this fixes the problem.
