HP G62-355DX laptop I bought in May keeps shutting down. There is not set length of time or specific program when it happens. It seems like the computer is still on but I just have a blackish/gray screen and I cannot do anything but hold the power button, shut it down and power it back only for it to happen once again. I update windows, HP software, and Norton, ran Norton scan, and the problem persists. Any thoughts? Could it be getting too hot somehow? Maybe the fan intake air vents are blocked.

  • If the computer appears to shutdown and then attempt to restart without displaying an error message, do the following to disable the automatic restart on error setting.
    1. Click Start , right-click Computer , and then select Properties .
    2. Click Advanced system settings , grant permission to continue if prompted, and then click the Advanced tab.
    3. Click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section of the Advanced tab.
    4. Deselect the Automatically restart checkbox under System failure .
    5. Click OK to close the Startup and Recovery window, click OK again to close the System Properties window, and then close the Control Panel window.
    6. Restart the PC.
Disabling the automatic restart setting allows time to view the error message that displays on the screen. Contact the manufacturer of the program or device that is causing the error for specific information about the error message.

My h1000e takes long to shut down?what could be the cause of this and how do i solve this problem?

Pepper, It seems that you installed something that is causing this problem. What happens is that when you shut Windows down, it has to close all programs running, whether in the foreground or in the background. Now, when all programs are shutting down properly then there is no problem. But when some one decides to resists the shutting down then Windows takes longer to abide by your instructions. You have to find out this/these program/s that you installed recently. Uninstall them if you can do without them. Alternatively close them manually before shutting down. What programs are these? That you alone can find out. Another reason. Does Windows seem to take longer while "Saving Your Settings"? If that happens, then there may be something wrong with Windows. Be prepared to reinstall Windows. Do not get alarmed, but just keep it at the back of your mind. Keep taking backups of your data regularly to be on the safe side.

HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop turn off suddenly and cpu fan is working ok. after goes off is hard turn on again, not is battery neither ac adapter but i have seen that many people has the same kind of problem,...

If this happens while you are using it, then that's one thing.

We will get to that later.

If it happens while the unit is just sitting there, then that's another thing.

You probably have an energy savings setting problem that you can easily resolve simply by going into the My Computer equivalent and reconfiguring your length of time prior to shutdown of either the display and/or the hard drive.

Find the "DISPLAY" Icon and click on it and you will find a variety of energy saving routines which you can set to the amount of time that the unit will stay on, even though not in use, after which it will shut down to save energy and wear and tear on your components.

Now, as promised, if this occurs while your unit is in use and just shuts down while you are typing, then your unit requires service by a professional as there apparently is some kind of shortage which with further use could damage your unit.

I hope this helps, but if you have further questions, feel free to ask.
