Cant receive faxes. constant busy signal when dialing in.

Hi Janet
Try using a standard phone to call your Fax Line
Connect a phone to this Line to test for voice
Disconnect Fax Machine from Phone Line
Reset Fax machine
The Fax machine is supposed to respond to the right tones being sent down the voice line
If it is not responding & all else works then check your Fax settings for "Receiving"

ECM error message

Noise in the phone line, or low signal strength during fax transmission can result in fax failures. Noise or poor signal strength can cause a partial or complete loss of fax information during transmission. When Error Correction Mode (ECM) is on, the receiving fax machine checks the fax information for errors during reception. If the receiving fax machine detects an error, the receiving fax requests that the sending fax resend the information. Resending all or part of the information can make transmission times longer, but helps improve the quality of the received fax.
If the phone line quality or signal strength is extremely poor, sending a fax can fail. Turning off ECM can improve the ability of the product to send a fax successfully when the phone line quality is poor. However, the image quality of the received fax might be poor.
If ECM must be off to send faxes successfully, have the telephone service provider check the phone line quality. For an HP Fax, turning off ECM from the control panel does not necessarily mean that fax transmission will not use ECM. Fax products use ECM as follows.
  • All faxes sent in color use ECM.
  • All faxes sent at the highest transmission speed use ECM.
  • The ECM setting affects only sent faxes, not received faxes.
Enabling or disabling Error correction mode (ECM)
  1. On the product control panel, press the Menu button (c01743394.gif ).
  2. Use the arrow buttons (c01073166.jpg ) to select Basic Fax , and then press the OK button (c01335940.jpg ).
  3. Use the arrow buttons (c01073166.jpg ) to select ECM Mode , and then press the OK button (c01335940.jpg ).
  4. Use the arrow buttons (c01073166.jpg ) to select On or Off , and then press the OK button (c01335940.jpg ) to confirm the setting.
  5. Press the Back button (c01496476.gif ) twice to return to the main screen.

Hi havent received a fax for a day..just sent myself a fax from elsewhere but not received it...what settings should i check ? thanks .

Pick up the handset and check that you have "dial-tone" on your machine. If you dont, check and make sure you have the phone line plugged in to the "line" jack on the back of your fax machine.
If you still dont have dial tone, plug a phone into the wall outlet for your phone line and make sure it works.

Lexmark 7350 all in one

Before you begin

To pinpoint the cause of the issue, please record answers to the following questions:

Can a fax be sent or received?
Can a fax be sent, but not received?
Has the fax function ever worked in the past?

Any error messages may also help to narrow down the cause of the issues.

Print out the following:

- a settings list to view the current fax settings
- a receive log if there are issues receiving faxes
- a send log if there are issues sending faxes
- an activity log if faxes cannot be sent or received.
Initial checks
If the fax option has worked in the past and does not do so now, check that the same connection is being used and that it still works.
Check to see if any configuration settings have been changed that could have affected the fax settings.

Faxes cannot be sent/received:
If you are using a digital line, you need an analog card, an ISDN adapter, or an ADSL filter in order to send faxes.
If a PBX is being used, an ISDN Adapter/ADSL filter will not be used as these are supplied within the system. (A PBX is normally used within a company to share a small number of public lines among a large number of private ones to save on cost.) For instructions on configuring the X6100 Series machine with a PBX, see How and When to Use the PBX Option.
Check the phone line (without the printer):
Test the line by connecting a phone directly into the phone port.
Check for a dialing tone.
If you cannot hear a dialing tone, try another phone cable. Once you can hear a dialing tone, you know that the phone port is live and working.
Make sure the RJ11 cable is not damaged.
Check that the printer is accessing the dialing tone correctly:
Press the Options button on the operator panel five times until ON HOOK DIAL is displayed.
Press Select. You should hear a dialing tone.
If you can't hear a dial tone, make sure that the speaker volume is set to High. (Go to Fax, press Options eight times until SPEAKER VOLUME is displayed, then use the plus or minus buttons to change the setting to HIGH. Press Select.)
If there is still no dial tone, unplug the power cable and the phone lead, then plug them back in and try again.

Faxes can be sent but not received:
Connect the Lexmark All-in-One directly to the phone port. IMPORTANT: Do NOT connect any phones to the EXT port.
Make sure the Fax receive mode is set to answer the fax after 3 rings. (Press the Fax button on the operator panel and then press Options three times until ANSWER FAX WHEN is displayed. Change the settings using the - or + buttons as appropriate.)

Faxes can be received but not sent:
Make sure that Country Code is set correctly:
Press the Fax button on the operator panel and then press Options 15 times until Advanced is displayed.
Press Select.
Press Options 13 times and then press the + or - button until the right country is displayed.
Press Select.

IMPORTANT! These tests must be carried out with NO EXTENSIONS, i.e. phones or answering machines, connected to the EXT port on the All-In-One.

  1. Phone company services: Do you have any of the following telephone line services from your telephone company: Voice Mail, Privacy Block, Security Screen, Anonymous Call Rejection, and Privacy Manager. These phone services are meant to prevent unwanted calls, but they will also stop faxes. On models with an Answer Mode setting, it should be set to Fax, FaxTel, or AnswerMachine depending on your setup.
  3. If you have a HP PSC 2200 or an Officejet 6100 that interrupts calls or will not receive faxes, download and install the HP Firmware update for these products.

    2. Select Download drivers and software .
    3. Type in your model number (HP PSC 2210xi for example).

    5. On the software download page, select your Windows version.
    6. Locate and select the firmware update.
    7. Follow the directions to download and install the update.
