If you can locate the vertical IC (located on a heatsink) you will find this IC needs resoldering. This is a common problem with RCA TVs. The vertical IC is of a TDA series number. It will have seven pins. Examine very close and you will see cracks or rings around each pin. Resolder these, do not use excess solder or you will short the pins together. Inspect any and all solder grounds in this area, resolder as necessary. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

RCA serial 137651043, model P52939, 55 inch tv.

Half black? top/bottom or left right?

The set is rather old--a old trick to use is to connect a fan to the rear of set with the back off--it may extend the life of the set and give you some more use out of it.

I have seen a lot of these sets and never one with the problem you describe. If only a picture top or bottom is missing it may be vertical or if you are seeing what looks like a full picture with top or bottom black it is a Blanking problem--may not be easy to find...........

I HAVE A HALF SCREEN. BOTTOM HALF LOOKS GOOD TOP HALF HAS WHITE LINES WITH A BIGGER WHITE LINE SEPARATING THE TWO. IS THE PICTURE TUBE GONE OR IS THERE AN ADJUSTMENT I CAN MAKE? TV IS A RCA F25645

This is commonly known as a vertical deflection problem. It cannot be fixed with an adjustment, but requires changing some electronic components. Namely the vertical output IC (integrated circuit) and in addition usually in this model a resistor which may appear to be burned.

Top half of picture is black bottom half of picture is fine

The problem is in the vertical output ic, located near the high voltage transformer, "heat sinked" the pins need to be resolded or the ic replaced along with two or three capacitors. If a professional gets involved I recommend an estimate.

My RCA F36648 36" TV has only the bottom half of my picture working. The top half has horizontal lines that distorte the picture. It looks like when you pull a rake through the sand the lines that are left...

You have vertical output problems. There is distortion at the top because of a faulty vert. output i.c. or a faulty electrolytic capacitor. It's possible there may be a problem at your yoke also.It needs a professional repair.
