I have a XL-15c model, 6 months old. I cleaned the screen on the back and after it had dried for a good 24 hours I returned it and now the green light doesn't come on nor do I get the ozone smell. I changed the plate and it worked for about a day and the light went out again and no ozone smell. What is wrong with this thing?

You have a three year warranty on the machine. Send it back so they can fix it at no cost. It will only cost you about $15 to ship it to them.

Living Air Model # XL15

I called with this problem, and after explaining that I did everything I was supposed to do, including vacuuming the inside and outside, cleaning the wire with at LEAST 20 up & down strokes, and cleaning the plates with hot sudsy water, allowing 24 hours to dry and the holding down the power button to reset the unit for 10 seconds; the near-English speaking tech asked me if I had done each step (individually) that I JUST TOLD HER I did. She asked me if I had the original store receipt (which I couldn't find at the time I was on the phone) and then told me that they would send me another one for $29.95 freight plus I would have to pay for return shipping of the original (2-month-old) unit. At this rate of exchange I could just buy another brand new one in less than a year.

How to clean ozone plates

Unplug the machine.
1) Remove the back screen, then pull out the plates.
2)Soak them in a 1 to 1 solution of PLAIN ammonia and warm water for about 5 minutes.
3)Scrub with a toothbrush or soft veggie brush.
4)Rinse well.
5)Blow dry. Do NOT use any cloth or paper of any kind. Avoid touching the screen with fingers.
6)You can also clean the contact points with a cotton-tipped swab and alcohol.
6)Reinsert plates, making sure that they enter in the "groove" or track, both top and bottom. Make sure the contact fingers press firmly on both sides in the screen area.

How often shoule you clean/change the plate? how do you clean it?

You should clean the purification plate once a month. Using a 1 part water and 1 part amonia solution, dip an old toothbrush into the solution and scrub the metal grids on the plate to remove any dirt or deposits on the grids. Remember to do both sides of the plate. After the grids have been scrubbed, rinse with warm tap water and allow it to dry completely or use a hair dryer to speed up the drying time.

It would be a good idea to scrub the metal contacts that touch the plates inside the purifier as well. The plates should be changed if they develop a crack or there is noticeable arcing when the purifier is running. Hope this helps you.

I have 2 Ecoquest Fresh Air purifiers located in oposite ends of my basement. One in my work shop area (approx 28x32) and the other in my finished basement area (approx 28x50). The reason I chose this...

Hi Ed,

You should also clean the contacts points that touch the plates with the amonia and water solution. Use a brush and to remove any deposits on those contacts. Also the purification plates will not work if they are still damp when they are put into the machine. They must be completely dry in order to work. Use a hair dryer to dry off any water on the metal grid or allow them to dry for 24 hours. Hopefully that should get your plates going again.

In regards to when you should replace the plates. As long has the plate material is not cracked and you can clean the metal grids to a shine they should be good. But they should be able to last several years with good maintenance.

The RCI cells should be replaced every 3 years or when the machine displays "Replace RCI" message.

Hope this helps you.

I do not know how to clean it. It is called Fresh

The Fresh Air has a reminder on the LCD to Perform Cleaning. This reminder will display if the purifier runs for 30 days. When this reminder is displayed perform the following steps to clean your purifier.

1. Cleaning the Case:

Wipe the unit with a soft cloth dampened with water. Do not use chemicals or solvents. Vacuum the front and rear grills to remove any lint buildup.

2. To clean the lint screen, RCI cell and purification plate:

3. To remove the back cover:

Remove the plug from the back of the unit. Unscrew the screw above the plug socket on the back cover. To remove the back cover, press the back sides of the back cover to unlatch and tilt the bottom of the back cover to remove.

4. To remove the rear lint screen:

Remove the two thumbscrews holding the top of the lint screen. Remove the lint screen by pulling back the top of the screen, then lift it up and out.

5. Removing the RCI cell:

Remove the RCI cell connector by pressing the connector locking tabs. Pull the connector straight out to unplug.
Remove the RCI cell by removing the two thumbscrews. Slide the RCI cell down and out of the unit.

6. Cleaning the RCI Cell:

Remove the RCI cell and carefully vacuum accumulated lint. Do not wash the RCI cell. Damage from water may result.

7. Rear lint screen cleaning:

You have two options

  1. When visibly dirty, simply remove the rear lint screen from the unit and with a duster attachment on a vacuum, remove the heavy particulate.
  2. In addition to step 1, the filter can be washed with hot water (do not use soap). Allow to dry prior to reinstalling. Replace if damaged.

8. Cleaning the Purifier Plate:

Remove the plate from the card cage by grasping the middle edge nearest to you, and slowly pull it straight out. Clean with mixture of one part water and one part ammonia. Place plate and ammonia mixture in a dish and allow it to soak for no more than 10 minutes. Remove plate and scrub with a toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and air dry for 24 hours or use a blow dryer to dry thoroughly.

After all parts have been cleaned and are thoroughly dry, reinstall components in reverse order. Turn the purifier on, and on the key pad, press the reminder Reset button to clear the Perform Cleaning message.

My Alpine Air XL-15 Air Purifier youst to have a

The Classic XL-15 should have 2 individual indicator lights. The 'red' light is the ionizer indicator, and the 'green' light is the ozone level indicator. Both lights should be illuminated, if the unit is operating properly. The red light should be pulsing, and the green light should be dimly lit, and brightened as the output knob is turned up - indicating a higher ozone production. If the green light is not lit, you likely won't smell the ozone. The first thing you should try, is cleaning the filter and glass ozone plate. Unplug the unit and remove the rear air filter. Clean the filter with clean water and allow to COMPLETELY air dry. Removed the glass plate by depressing the lever behind the glass plate, and gently pulling it out. Clean the glass with a half water, half ammonia (or distilled white vinegar, if ammonia not available) and an old toothbrush to clean between the mesh. Dry plate with a hair dryer and re-place plate into unit. Replace dried air filter, making sure the little tab on the bottom is secured into the interlock. Power the unit on and you should see the indicator lights and smell the fresh ozone!
