Pentair PG 2000 light stopped working. Replaced metal halide bulb, worked for a few hours then stopped working and wouldnt come back on. Replaced capacitor, but light still doesn't work. Have verified 150volts to lead wires to light bulb. Any ideas on what might be causing the problem - not enough voltage to arc the bulb?? Thanks!

Have you replaced the ballast or did you just replace the capacitor? If you did not replace the ballast I would start there. Also if you have a multimeter check your bulb for continuity you may have gotten a bad bulb.

When do I need to use a glass shield for my aquarium lighting?

When you are using a metal halide a glass shield is a necessity. Metal halides get really hot and one drop of water could cause the bulb to explode. A glass shield would also filter out the UV rays.

How many volts should be coming from the light soccet connected to a ballast for a 400watt bulb I am reading 270v but the bulb will not light

hi, a word of warning , the ignition voltage of a metal halide( grow light ) is many thousands of volts .
the first thing to try is a replacement bulb , next is replace the ignitor ( usually a small block with 3 terminals ).
a metal halide lamp can often look to be perfect when infact its internally blown .
hope this helps

How do I correctly wire/connect a Ballast/Capacitor and Timed Ignitor to a 150W Metal Halide light fitting? Regards, Mike Pye

well mostly these lights come with a ballast and the right connector to go from the Ballast to the bulb, if you dont have these then it might just be cheaper to get another set-up. these bulbs run at the high end of the spectrum , in the infa red end of it actually , but really are an ineficient bulb like the mercury-vapour that preceded them compared with the later models , lets say from the 'sonti-agros' till now ( a much more usable spectrum of light and more efficient ) there are a huge range to choose from, as far as the scematics of it well they differ from light to light and brand to brand, hope this has been of some help. geoff
