How do I disable a Motorola network that uses a Motorola SGB900 Wireless SURFboard Gateway? This is one of two networks we have and it seems that someone is using this unlocked network and may have hacked into an AOL email account.

I have a Motorola SURFboard Gateway SBG6580 modem. I want to use the wireless for my DS lite but it says that I need an WEP key, but I don't know how to enable it. Help!

Your wireless is set up with a password. You need to get that password before you can connect any more devices. From a computer that can connect to the internet go to 192.168.0.1. Then type admin for the username and motorola for the password. I believe from there you click Wireless then click Primary Network. You should see your wireless network name and password from there. I'm getting this from the modems manual here: http://www.midcocomm.com/_files/files/SBG6580.pdf

How do I setup to use the dual band feature on the motorola surfboard gateway SBG6580? We want to set it up to use both for different applications. Thanks

Contact your Internet Service Provider. Since you will be connecting your modem to their network, you need to follow their setup instructions, to ensure that it functions correctly.

Is the Motorola SBG900 cable modem gateway a router- that is will it enable file sharing between the computers that share the gateway (one wired, one wireless). If so how is this set up?

you should be able to set up a home network you will have to enable file sharing, if you run through the network setup wizzard in the control pannel it should be fairly straightforward

NO INTERNET CONNECTION

You need to properly configure the wireless settings of your computer. Make sure to disable the firewall on your computer like windows firewall or any other firewall. Now make sure that you have entered the correct wireless security key on your wireless settings. Go to control panel > network connections > right click wireless network connections > properties. Go to Wireless Networks tab and remove all the Preferred Networks there. Go to Add and proceed to adding manually your wireless settings.

My computer shows my sgb900 with a good signal but wont connect i have a compaq laptop running 32 bit vista

Hi,

Please check the security feature which you have enabled on sgb900. I dont think that running vista or Xp will make any change.

I cannot upload via FTP, I have a motorola sgb900

Set up a port trigger for FTP in the "Gateway" section on the "Port Triggers" page. Click on the "Custom" link at the head of the page.

Enter these values

Name FTP
Enable checked
Protocol TCP
Port Range 21:21
Session Chaining TCP/UDP
Session Interval 600
Address Replace Disable
Multi Host Yes

Click Add, then Apply.

You should be all set. Either that, or you could turn off the firewall.
