Using a DVD-RW disk, try ALL different recording settings even if they don't seem probable and record a sample. If output is correct with all BUT the HDMI-cable, go through ALL picture format settings on the TV when a HDMI-cable is used. Different discs and HDMI cables don't have anything to do with this. I'm still chewing on this...
You can not use HDMI to connect to a recorder due to blu-ray rules of no high quality recording being allowed. The only way to record off of Direct TV is to use audio and video cables (red,white and yellow.You also may need something like a videostabiizer etc. to do the job. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!!!!

I have a magnavox dvd recorder/vcr combo (ZV427MG9A) connected to my Sharp hdtv via hdmi cord, Can anyone tell me simple setup steps to make it record and play on either sides. I have read instruction book over and over and it is still not recording to disc or tapes. I also have Charter Cable connected. Can you tell me what do i need to do to make it work. H-E-L-P!!!!
The DVD-VR375 does not have an HDMI input. The connection should be: • RED WHITE & YELLOW CABLE from your cable box (AV OUT) should connect to the DVD-VR375 (AV IN 1). Set the DVD-VR375 to AV 1 using the INPUT SEL. button. • Next, connect an HDMI cable from the DVD-VR375 (HDMI OUT) to the TV (HDMI IN). Set the TV to the proper source. This connection would allow the recorder to work as a pass through and will let you record TV programs as well as watch your cable channels.
you may have the outputs hooked up correctly however you may need to set the inputs to the selected type of cable you are using. S video 1 cable or video input witch is an rca adapter yellow in color. you will find these setting in the "setup section" on the remote set up button will get you there and then input or source.
your model is "tuner free" that means it does not have the RF screw in connector. Buy one that has a tuner, preferably both ATSC(USA digital) and NTSC(USA analog)
Connect it to your TV set or cable box, just like you would a regular VCR. Then put a blank disc or tape in to record from either the DVD drive or the VCR drive. There should be an easy dubbing button to record from VCR to DVD. (I don't have this particular machine; I have two other brands of combo recorders, and I use them both like I would a regular VCR. This one shouldn't be any different.)
