What to remember when working on these gas engines you have to have fuel spark and air usually on these small engines there is a screen in the bottom of the gas tank that gets clogged up check out the spark plug and take the air filter off and wash it in warm water with dawn dish detergent let squeeze all the water out of the filter and let it dry out a day or so hope this helps Merry Christmas

SOURCE: tines wont turn

Without really knowing what is broken it will be tough to give a firm idea of the cost. However, you can head over to www.partstree.com. They have a great detailed parts break down and costs associated with it. Looked up your part numer and can find at this link: http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=mtd&mn=210-031-000+%281990%29

SOURCE: mtd rear tines tiller won't engage tines. F and R

It sounds like the shift shaft or something in the gearbox the shift shaft engages. I know you didn't want to hear this but it is not uncommon. Most operators don't use the clutch bail when starting, stopping, and shifting as they should.

I hate to say it but this may require a trip to your service center for repair.

SOURCE: tiller tines won't turn where put in gear.

The spring goes in first followed by the ball. The ball should not get in the key way because that is filled by the slider pins that go up into the spur gear that drives the tines. Actually the slider pins drive all of the gears by engaging different gears as the gear collar is moved up and down. The detent spring and ball is the mechanism that is supposed to hold the the clutch collar in place. Mine jumps out of gear when tilling any depth except very shallow. I have reinforced the shifting forks and replaced the pins on the end of it. I believe that the pins wear and the arms spread because i have to keep pressure on the shifting rod or it will jump out of gear when tilling. Even with the reinforcing, pressure on the shifting rod will wear out the pins on the shifting arm. This will be my 3rd reassembly and I am leaning toward the detent spring being weak and allowing the shifting collar to move too easily. I may order an new spring and ball and see if that helps. I am getting pretty good at taking it apart.

Need an operator's manual for a tb146 ec tiller

I believe that the tb146 ec is a Troy-bilt tiller, so you need the model number and the serial number to get the manual. Go to http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/Public.do?BrandCode=10001 . Then enter the model and serial numbers and click Search.

The plaque with these numbers is usually on the outside of the tine housing. It's generally in a spot that won't get damaged while the unit is in use.

I hope this helps.

Get owners manual

Mtd Tiller manuals are available here: http://www.mtdproducts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/OwnersCenterView?storeId=10500&catalogId=20500&langId=-1 . You will need the model number and the serial number from your tiller. This information is usually on a plate on the outside of the tine housing for tillers (to minimize being damaged in use).

I hope this helps.

I need a manual for a 1998 or 1999 gardenway lawn tractor by MTD troybuilt Model #13AI617H118 Serial #1A082H10211 can you help? It's a 21H tractor 46SDIt's up above

Most of the MTD product manuals are available here: http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/Public.do?BrandCode=10001 . Just fill in the model and serial numbers.

I found two separate manuals listed: lawn tractor owner's guide and the engine operator's manual. I found the manuals only opened in IE (Windows OS) after clicking the I Accept button. The direct links are: http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/Safety.do?pid=152292&model_num=13AI617H118&serial_num=1A082H10211&filename=770-10317b.pdf and http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/Safety.do?pid=152290&model_num=13AI617H118&serial_num=1A082H10211&filename=274794.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Tilller will not run

Get the model # and serial # off of the sticker. Got to the Troy Bilt site and use the owners manual link. Need to leave off the last 3 numbers of the model #.

If that site does not have the manual, I've found them on the MTD site. I enter only the first 2 numbers of the model # and then hunt for my manual from the list.

If all else fails, you can call Troy Bilt at their # provided on the site.

Hope this helps.

Broken clutch cable connector, MTD Tiller

I found micro fiche on jackssmallengines.com . Click on the manufacturer's tab at the top of the page then you'll have the option to use an off-site tool to locate your machine. I used it and found my 1990 mtd rear tine tiller. I needed the cable that engages the tines - maybe the same as you. The part number for my 1990 model's cable was 746-0535. Dont know if it was still the same in 96 to 98. But look at the fiche and see.
