There should be three ports the phone line can plug into,
one will be occupied by the machines headset,
there should then be a LINE and an EXT port.

Make sure the phone cord is plugged into the LINE port.
If it is and still no dial tone try a different phone cord and also try hooking up a phone to the jack you're trying to plug the machine into to make sure it's live.

If a new cord doesn't work and a phone can get a dial tone then it's possible the board that has the jack could be bad and would need to be replaced by a service technician.

If it comes to that here's the part number you'll need to have replaced (you can try to google it to get an idea of the cost of the part, I suggest not trying to do the repair yourself and to actually take it to a repair shop though)

My brother mfc 4800 wont copy, it keeps asking for the fax number. Please help

Your fax machine uses the same line as your phone. You will need to read your manual to decide after how many rings you want the fax machine to answer. Generally should be after your answering machine. Your fax number will be your telephone number.Hope It's resolve all Your Printer Problem,

Connect mfc 7340 to pc without phone line

Yes you will need to install the drivers and connect with a USB cable. The CD that came with the machine. Remember to connect the cable only when the installation says to.

The only thing that will require phone lines is for the fax. You need to connect the phone lline in the jack called line on the machine and other end should go straight to the wall jack.

My Brogher MFC-7840W is not printing any fax or sending any fax. When someone sends me a fax, it rings and then it goes dead. When I try to send a fax, it scans the document but then goes dead. I don't...

normally the only thing that could block you from sending a fax would be the connection to the phone line. make sure the phone wire is plugged into the line jack (not ext) and going straight to the wal, no splitters or extensions. if it still cannot send after this try another wire or jack

Can not send nor receive faxes

Hello,

The printer has two telephone jacks. One to connect the printer to the phone line (it is marked LINE). The other is to connect a phone to the printer.
Switch the wires, or if only one telephone jack is connected, switch it to the other (unoccupied ) jack

Hope it helps.

Fax doesn't recognize incoming phone call

Try this: using a cell phone, call your fax. Listen on the cell for a busy signal, fax tones, dial tone, etc. If the fax does not answer the cell, check the following: make sure the phone line is plugged into the LINE jack on the fax, NOT THE PHONE JACK. The phone jack is to connect a TELEPHONE to the fax. If problem still exists, press MENU on your MFC, and scroll to GENERAL SETUP, FAX. Scroll to SETUP RECEIVE, and, after writing down the settings, try changing the RING DELAY or RING TIME settings. If problem is still there, press CLEAR/BACK button until GENERAL SETUP appears on screen. Scroll down to INITIAL SETUP, and select RECEIVE MODE. Try changing RECEIVE MODE settings. Write them down before you change anything.

Busy/No Response

Using a cell phone, call your fax machine to see if the fax answers. If it does answer, then hang up the cell phone and fax. Next, using the HOOK button on your fax, call your cell phone . The cell phone should ring and answer the phone call from the fax. If you do not get a connection between the fax and cell, try these: Check that the phone line to the fax is plugged into the LINE jack on the fax, NOT THE PHONE jack. The PHONE jack on the fax is to plug in a TELEPHONE ONLY. If the fax phone line is OK, go into your fax machines' RECEIVE and SEND settings and make sure they are set up properly (pulse or tone dialing, overseas mode, etc.) Print out the HELP LIST as follows: Press MENU button, then 5 on keyboard, then 1 on keyboard. Go through all the settings on the HELP LIST that apply to your problem. (Send and Receive modes, Ring Delay, Receive Options, etc.) Write down the original settings BEFORE YOU CHANGE ANY OF THEM.
