Lines on papre

When printing a page there are two vertical lines on the right hand side of the paper. The lines run almost the entire length of the paper.

likely the drum has a spot of something on it that you can get off with a fingernail or if it is the toner wiper arm you can take compressed air and blase the thing off some and it will work again just a little gravel in the toner got stuck.

Hello,

In the Brother laser printers the cartridge is from two pieces, the cartridge and the drum unit. In this case you have to change the drum unit ( or the drum if you can find ).

Hope to be usefull !

Replace the toner cartridge.
There is probably a flaw in the image drum. Replacing the toner will replace the image drum (they are one piece)

My HL2040 printer is printing black vertical lines along the right-hand side of the page, about 3" or so. A month ago I took it apart and cleaned the roller. Still doing it.

If the lines go all the way down the page, check the position of the corona wire cleaner tab (blue or green) at the top front of the drum unit. if not parked fully to one side it will create a solid black lines where it blocks the laser. Otherwise look for some other foreign object (or torn paper piece) that may be blocking the laser from the drum. If the lines are thin and shark, check for scratches on the drum (not repairable without replacing drum). If the lines are uneven thickness but in a pattern that repeats down the page every few inches, then the film on the drum is probably worn or wearing away and the drum needs to be replaced.

Thick black vertical line appears on the right hand side of the page

PLACE A PLAIN PIECE OF WHITE PAPER IN MACHINE AND TAKE A COPY. IF NO LINES ARE ON IT THEN THE LINES ARE COMING FROM THE MACHINE THAT IS SENDING TO YOU BUT IF U DO HAVE THE LINES THEN PRINT HEAD IS PROBABLY FAULTY OR DIRTY.

I get lines and can't read the right side of copies that I make with the 1270e. How do I fix this?

You have not specified why you can't read the right side of copies and I am assuming that the reason is because the 'lines' are covering the text. I can offer a solution to the lines issue.

Most likely a fax has been sent or a page copied with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. As the page feeds over the scanner, (a narrow strip of glass that runs across the width of the page along the feed path) the wet liquid paper comes off on the glass as a thin line and dries. Thereafter, when copying, scanning or sending a fax, the scanner light does not go through the liquid paper streak and the result when printed is a thin vertical line that runs the full length of the page. If this is the cause you will also find that faxes you send to other people will also have this line (although faxes you receive are not affected by this problem with your machine).

To fix the problem: follow the path that the paper travels when sending a fax or making a copy, until you find the scanner (narrow glass strip). Take a clean, soft cloth and a small amount of methylated spirit (or white spirit) and remove the now dried Liquid Paper from the glass. Clean the whole strip ensuring that the glass is left clean and dry.

Vertical line and five spots in every sheet of paper I print

Thats on the drum, time for a new cartridge.  The equial distance of the marks on the right side of the page point to the drum  which I presume is built into the toner cartidge.

A very thin light blue line appears on all printing jobs

Have you tried running some printer cleaning sheets through it? They are available through Office Depot, Fry's and other stores.

Also, it could be an issue with the imaging drum. I've worked on several printers which have had a similar issue and they needed the imaging drum replaced. Typically that helped.
