Loud pop/crackle and now picture is marbled...

While the tv was being watched, there was a rather loud pop/crackling and the picture turned into a sort of mono, marbled video. It is still in a lessor form of color and you can tell that a program is being displayed, the images are just very, very degraded. Do you think it is a power supply or video board or some other connection?

The set is 5 years old and I don't want to pay a tech more than the set is worth.

What source are you using? HDMI, Composite or Component?

The picture being displayed might just be the 480p resolution and it looks faded at times.

The loud crack can be the plastic inside the screen expanding from the exposure to heat but this is normal.

480p doesn't look to great on flat screens.

Heard a pop when I turned on tv and now nothing

don't leave it on and have it looked at---most likely is if it uses a lamp that may be the problem but if not it may be in the power supply.

If there is no picture but sound is audible then replacing the projection lamp will do otherwise, the TV requires to be diagnosed for any other hardware damages.

WHEN I TURN ON THE TV ITS MAKES A VERY LOUD CRACKLING NOISE.

If you have lost your freeview channels & your picture has been breaking up (pixelating / freezing) etc as well as crackle on the audio, then I would suspect you check your antenna, it could be your incoming signal is weak which would give you these problems.

Continuous crackling from TV speakers

I'm sure you have figured this one out. TV itself is causing the problems.
The circuit board that produces the audio signal seems to be the problem.
Before you call the repairman, go to the web site Shopjimmy.com just to get an idea of what the parts will cost. That way he doesn't rip you off.

I hope I answered your question correctly. Please rate me. :)
