Hi. My Magic Chef refrigerator ctb1722arw is not working. The freezer section still freezes, but the refrigerator section is not working at all (except the light!) and no air flows in. Repairmen were just here and isolated a broken defrost heater. They defrosted the freezer and need to order the part. The refrigerator section is still not working. Will a new defrost heater solve my refrigerator problem?

After some work online...I found this advertisement buried among a bunch of other ads:
Magic Chef RB15-1A: Top-freezer style with 14.6 cubic ft. capacity and optional ice maker -- $439.

So, as I suspected the "15" in the model number is the cubic feet (total I would say). The 14.5 is probably actual, with the unit "rated" as a 15 CF.

Naturally, to find the cu. ft of the freezer, measure in inches then multiply the width X height X depth and divide that resulting rather large number by 1728 to get your cubic feet of the freezer.

You could also do the same with the refrigerated section, and add the results together and they should be near 14.5 total.

It is located in the control panel assembly in the refrigerator section at the top

Its defrost problem, the freezer should cool, then freeze, then defrost cycle should start. In your case freezer is cooling, then freezing, but its not defrosting. That's why fridge section is not cooling.-------

Just a guess...
You may need to redo the freeon (sp)
or you may need a starter switch.

Odd that it does not work after moving.
Was it dropped, layed down etc ?

A bad defrost timer located on the right rear.
A bad defrost heater located in the freezer under the freezer floor panel.

The most likely cause is that the defrost system is not working. After about a week it builds up with enough frost to stop the cold air from getting to the refrigerator section. The most common problem is the defrost timer, defrost heater or defrost thermostat.

the air flow is blocked betwen fridge and frezer or even the small fan is burnt out

check the fan relay and the compressor to make sure it is still working...if not there is a capasiter you can replace to get it to work again

Not a themostat. 3 most common causes are defrost problem (frost on back freezer panel), bad evaporator fan motor, or damper.
