How to clone an hard disk

If you're trying to clone 8.1 to a hard drive or SSD, Macrium Reflect OS migration to SSD does a pretty good job. I've had several successes with it and some failures. If you're cloning to a SSD, I suggest using a Kingston with Macrium Reflect; it appears to be better suited for the software and has the highest success rate.

Macrium Reflect is free, or pay if you wish. Make sure you burn a rescue CD; you will likely need it to finish the cloning process for your cloned drive. It is required to clear up the errors.

Dell error code 2000-0142

Any error code for a hard drive isn't good, and should be reason to get a new one right away. So long as the drive is still able to be accessed, you have a chance of retrieving your data. There are free utilities to help you 'clone' the data to a new drive, but you may want to ask a tech-minded friend for help if you've never done it before. It sounds like the drive isn't dead yet, but is definitely on its way out. Good luck!

Hi! To do this, I would recommend a cloning software. You can attach a new hard drive to the computer and download any cloning software. I linked some 32 bit software that will work with Windows XP. Download one of those and clone the drive to the new drive by attaching the drive with a SATA connector. If you only want Windows and no files from the computer, you will need to find a Windows XP installer, which I am not sure of it’s existence.

Cara mematikan mode smart pada aspire3680

If this is about hard disk drive SMART (Self Monitoring) warning. Acer Aspire 3680 BIOS does not have an option to turn off this warning. Basically, your hard drive is dying and you need to replace it with a good working hard disk drive because sooner or later your hard disk drive will stop working. You can clone your hard disk drive using an hdd cloning utility such a Farstone Clone Drive.

I have an Acer Aspire 135. I used HDDCLONE and NTI ECHO. The original drive is 160GB. I cloned it to 500GB and later to a 160 GB. After swopping the drives the computer stops during rebooting with dis...

Hi skjelmose

It looks like there has been some form of corruption during the cloning and the Acer Aspire 135's BIOS can tell the difference between the original drive and the 2 clones.

Another possibility may be that Virus Detection is enabled in BIOS and some files on the cloned drives are being assessed as suspect. The BIOS retains, in its memory, the parameters of the last successful boot with the original drive and errs on the side of caution with even the smallest of differential anomalies on the clones.

Successful cloning requires good software and attention to detail. You do not need 2 separate items of software to clone a drive. To clone a drive successfully you must detach and connect both the original and the empty drives to a 2nd computer using some paired combination of a hard drive dock, a hard drive enclosure or a USB to IDE/SATA Adapter Cable on which a single example of a good Hard Drive or Partition Management application is installed.

You can clone drives easily and effectively with a single piece of software such as (most are available in Free Download and/or Trial format):

Partition Commander (http://www.avanquest.com/UK/trialDownload.html?pid=tcm:12-59089-64)

Partition Magic (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Partition-Magic.shtml)

Symantec PartitionMagic (http://us.norton.com/products/overview.jsp?pcid=sp&pvid=pm80)

Partition Manager (http://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-express/download.html)

I hope this helps.
