After power outage, freezer working, but fridge did not cool again

I am a renter with landlord in another state and can't wait days for help. THANKS

T-storms last night and apparently only the fridge and computer(of course) outlets failed. Were on this AM, but everything in fridge = room temp, but everything in freezer frozen. Friends said just wait and it will cool. 5 hours later it had not -

Took everything out of the freezer to find vents at back were all covered in ice. Took plastic implement and carefully cleaned out about a cup of powdered ice. So far (30 minutes) do not notice any cooling in fridge nor feeling of cool air coming down into fridge. The fan in freezer is going strong and all has stayed frozen in there.

Should I call someone or just wait or ? THANKS SO MUCH

Try to wait for couple of hours. If it still does the same thing, better call someone to check the freon and fan..

How long was the power out...

  • Anonymous Aug 18, 2008

if the power was out for a while the freezer will defrost some ...not the inside but around the inner liner and fill the transfer register with liquid the when the power is restored it will freeze suddenly and block cool air to the frig.
putt your stuff in coolers if you have any, turn off the frig let it thaw. 6 hours or so maybe less. then turn it back on that should fix it.
i have run in to this before.

  • Anonymous Aug 18, 2008

if it worked fine before the outage the coolant and fan are fine ...you say the fan is going so that is good.
freon is no longer used. do to (epa).

Hello I have an HMCF7W1 Magic Chef freezer, after a power outage the power light comes on, but the Run light will not turn on and everything is thawed. What can I do?

Perhaps the power outage, was caused by your freezer?
When you think a reset would help, the run light should come on, after a little while. But perhaps only the thermostat is defect.
Be aware there can be so many causes, and none has to be related to the power outage, for your freezer not to work.
It would be virtually impossible to see what is wrong, from a distance. Better try to bring the food to a working fridge and call a tech to solve the problem.

Laurie a lot of people forget to leave the fridge and freezer door open slightly and the water from defrost hiding behind the rear wall of the freezer will keep the inside of freezer and fridge damp this will cause the freezer fan motor to rust and stop air circulation. Can you provide a model number? Thanks John Tripp Appliance 911

No hot water

Lady may be tight, but she demands her rent on time and you no doubt pay more than the rental is worth. Most State Laws require landlords to make repairs within a reasonable period of time after the renter request service. Tight or not; she is responsible for the rental and you have Renters Rights. If you can't get her to fix the problem, withhold the rent and see how fast she reacts. Tell when she fixes the problem (In writing) you will pay the rent. If she tries to mess with you, report her to the State Rental Authority.

Freezer is not getting cold not sure if it is stuck in defrost mode

Freezer not getting cold, then defrost problem is rare, it can be compressor issue. If freezer getting cold but fridge not getting cold, then yes it can be defrost problem. The procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located.---------- But in your problem, you mentioned, in that freezer section is not stating cooling. So the compressor can be the issue. But still try reset procedure and see, if that is helping. Try manual defrost reset procedure: ---- First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. If still the same problem, then the compressor has to be inspected.

you can get the required parts from online sites like:---

www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site.---------This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
