Had a power outage during a lighting storm and now the GE spacemaker phone/unit does not work; it's showing in the display screen "Initializing". The phone works, but when you press any of the buttons on the unit, it doesn't change the display screen. I have checked all other appliances, TV, DVD players etc, and they are all working okay. I have unpluged and repluged back in, but again just come up with the same thing. I have checked the manual, but cannot seem to find anything that will change this. Please advise

Does it have a battery backup? If so, after disconnecting the AC power adapter, remove the battery for 15 minutes, then re-insert it (make sure it is a good battery), plug the AC adapter back in, and try again. Hopefully, this will re-set it. If not, it probably isn't worth tryiing to repair. May have to buy a new phone.

What is "Bell" and "Cogeco"? Did you change phone line provider companies? If so, you would need to ask them if it's possible to change. You are getting the information they are sending you. I do not believe the information is being altered by your phone.

To solve the register problem.... Put each phone for 20 seconds or so in the main base. I had the same issue, and resolved it this way.

SOURCE: Dead GE Spacemaker

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open.

When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

Had a lightning storm, now brand new aircon wont restart, remote is ok

The electrical storm may have caused a power surge and burned out the circuit board. Especially, if the power went out briefly and then came right back on. Most manufacturers recommend turning the unit OFF during a power outage/electrical storm.

Hope this helps you.

I have a GE Spacemaker XL from 1998. It was working fine yesterday but today the display window shows all asterisks. I have unplugged it for several minutes in an effort to reboot it. It asks for a...

Wow! sounds really weird. Possibly Microprocessor on Main Timer board. No way to really diagnose other than substituting or replacing the main board. Unfortunately a bit pricey. Nothing else i can think of that would actually cause asterisks in the display. I really do not like to refer them, but may need to call GE since it is one of their units. Maybe they could give you some guidance. Mostly, over the phone, they just insist on sending someone out. So they can bill you more.

Nothing shows up in the display. This has only been recently after a power glitch. The display lights when a call is made or received.

I unplugged the base unit from the wall for more than 10 minutes. Sometime after I plugged it back in (not immediately)the display re-appeared.

GE Spacemaker xl model#jvm1330ww005

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

If it's still out, the problem may be on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

GE 25931 Cordless Unavailable

I had the same problem recently due to a power outage during a storm. GE advised to disconnect the power cord and telephone cord on the "mother" unit. Wait five minutes. Then plug it back in.

I placed the "mother" phone back in the base. After the screen flashed on the "mother" phone, I removed it and then put the other two portables in the "mother" base.

This corrected my problem and all is now well.
