Well first of all you want to check to see that it is compatible some of the newer PC equipment you buy these days people think, "Oh USB I have an extra USB Port I can get that and plug it right in with no problem and be all set to go, NO, thats not really always true you see now days they have USB 3.0 and that is just fine if your PC is not more than a year old, BUT if your PC is more than a year old and you didn't special order it with USB 3.0, Chances are you have USB 2.0. If that all checks out then try a different USB port and try other thing in the ports that your Ego is not working in if it just your Ego that does not work in those ports I would suggest returning it to the place of Purchase.

Good luck! wish I could do more but is really hard when you can't actually be there to troubleshoot!!!

EGo portable hard drive works with desktop with one internal hard drive installed, however if desktop has two hard drives eGo will not work

right click on my computer and choose manage.
computer management will appear.
go down to disk management
if you see your ego drive listed there
right click on it and choose change drive letter and paths
choose a drive letter that isn't in use like F or G.
you should now be able to browse or view the ego drive in my computer. or by going to run and type the drive letter you choose.

Hi ,
Unfortunately , the device is probably definitely damaged .
The only way I can see to try to recover your data is to force the lid of the box ( will be lost for good ) and put the hdd in a new external box or connect it directly to the motherboard inside your desktop if this is what you have .
Good luck !
Best regards

Iomega eGo 1TB USB 3.0 Portable portable harddisk 500GB. while connected to PC show an error on desktop "insufficient power on USB hub port" . pls suggest

Few different things are possibilities.
1. Are you connecting the device via USB 3.0 to the USB 3.0 adapter on the computer? 2. Try switching out your USB 3.0 cable for a different one. 3. If you are using the USB 2.0 instead. Make sure you are using the USB Y cable for the device and not just a standard USB 2.0 straight cable. Using the USB Y cable. Plug the cable into the device first, then make sure to plug both USB's into the computer starting with the short side USB then the longer side USB second. Also try using the USB's on the back side of the computer as they will supply more power than the USB's on the front of the computer.

I have an iomega portable hard drive USB 2.0 called eGo. I have been using it with my Macbook. Since yesterday my computer does not recognize my eGo. I have tried to change the USB ports, have restarted...

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

My Iomega external ego hard drive(360GigaBytes)will cause my H.P. Pavilion with windows 7 to randomly restart while transferring data.

I had a similar 'rebooting' issue with my WD external drive caused by a faulty USB interface on my Desktop: if you have an external USB hub, try running your drive via the plug-in USB Hub to shield your external drive from your desktop inbuilt USB electronics..
