Well it depends on what you're recording. If you're trying to record from the T.V. your going to have issues because of the recent switch to digital. If you're recording from homemade VHS to DVD however just put in your VHS, then your blank DVD and hit record. There should be some on screen instructions displayed.
Hope it Helps! -Joe
Also you'll probably also have issues trying to convert your old VHS movie collection to DVD because most of the movies would probably be copyright protected.

I have a few DVD+R dvds that I had partially recorded on, but not finalized yet. Now When I put them in it says loading and then says Unknown disc. However it loads movie dvds bought in stores just

Is it that you want to record more data on them? If so, fill up the remaining available space, then finalize. That will be your only solution to this problem.

Hi, i would like to know if recordings can be downloaded from the Coby CXR190-1G to the computer.

Yes, absolutely!

I'm guessing you don't have the CX-R190 software that's compatible with your OS version.
No problem.

I use a patch cable between the AUDIO IN on my PC and the EAR on the recorder.

Since the ouput of the recorder is monoaural, all you need is a mono (2 wire) lenght of cable with a standard 3.5mm plug at each end. I made one myself, but I guess Radio Shack may have something like this:

If they don't have it, then a STEREO cable (3 wires) will work just fine.
Like this one:

To record the sound you can use any audio recorder.
I use Audacity. It's a freebie and pretty straightforward to use.

After you've plugged it all in, all you need to do is start Audacity and then start to playback the files from your recorder.
When they are on your computer, you can copy, cut, paste, add special effects, and later convert them to MP3 or whatever.

Good luck.

I want to record Turner Classic Movies from my cable to a dvd. I then want to edit out parts I don't want. Some movies are good but have just a few scenes that are not appropriate for family viewing....

The dvd recorder will not automatically edit out parts you don't want to see....the easiest way is to watch the movie live and if you know the part you don't want to record, press pause during the part and resume when it's done. Otherwise you will have to load the whole movie from dvd to your computer, get an editing software and cut out the scenes you don't want. There are lots of these simple programs on the market and some are even free.
Quickest way is to watch it real time and push pause on the objectionable parts.
Hope this helps.

Im trying to record a telephone conversation but don't know which settings the recorder should be on. Which input on the recorder do I use. The monitor or mix?

Hello don't used the monitor that's only for a headset try the mix or line in if you need and adaptor to connect your phone, this place has a lot of choices including for digital systems at http://www.tvps.com/Departments/Telephone-Recording/Telephone-Recording-Adapters.aspx
