Saturday while washing I heard a pop and the the washer began to make a noise. My hand husband took a look at it and after pulling the gray rubber seal back in the opening to the front notice that a with ring that supports metal drum is broken. I called repair man for monday but am curious about coast to fix it ! I dont want to be taken to the bank. One repair man who never looked at it said front loads are expensive to repair?
Front loaders can be expensive to repair. The labor costs can rack up and the parts aren't always the cheapest. However, the little metal retaining ring can be ordered on line at searspartsdirect.com for a very reasonable price. Look under the "Door and Latch Parts" heading for item number 14 (part number 8182211). If you are talking about the rear clamp that attaches to the wash tub, look for item number 6 (part number 8182210). Neither one of these parts are expensive and the following link gives you step-by-step instructions on how to replace/repair the bellow:

If you want to save yourself the trouble and expense of having someone else do this job for you, take a look at the link and review the cost of your replacement parts. This job is not difficult and you can save yourself from an expensive repair job. I have performed this job in the past and usually runs over $200 with parts (with the bellow being replaced) and labor charges. If the rubber bellow is in good shape, all you need is the clamps. I would doublecheck, however, the clamp(s) may have just come loose. All you might have to do it tighten them. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you need further assistance.
PS DO NOT over-tighten the inner bellow clamp. It can break the clamp and/or cause damage to the tub.
