Standard USB cable, with 1 Type A end and 1 Type B end.

Here's a picture of one.

You have 2 connection to the printer, the power, and the printer cable.

Most newer printers use the USB between the computer to the printer.

Or is there something else you are referring to?

If that's the install CD that came with the printer, I don't see why it wouldn't.

Just connect the printer to the computer, plug the printer in (don't turn it on yet).

    Run the CD install.

During the install it should tell you when to turn the printer on.

Never heard of such a disk, and I've been doing this kind of work for almost 20 years.

    Here's the best way.

Go to the Lexmark site, and download the drivers.

    Here's the link

Once it's downloaded, go to the folder you downloaded it to, and extract the files (double click it)

Go into the printer section on your computer, and double click "Add Printer"

(Yes, you do want to have the printer on while you are doing this)

Go through the wizard, and when it asks for what kind of printer, choose "Have Disk", and point it at the folder you extracted the files in (it will tell you where it is extracting to after you double click the downloaded file).

And finsih up with the wizard.

Should only take a couple of minutes.

See if printer will work in another working computer. If it does the issue is with your computer hardware/software. If it also does not work then the issue is with the printer. And if so, it is not cost effective to repair given the price of printers these days.

Where can I purchase a new power cord

That cord should be the same type of cord many computers and Hp printers use. Just head over to Office Depot & bring your old cord with you if you still have it to compare it with. That's a really common cord and should be easy to find.

How to hookup a hp deskjet 2480 printer

Lets think about this for a second:

How do you install the software (drivers, actually) when you dont have the CD?

You go to the manufacturers website and download them to your computer. Make sure you get the driver for the OPERATING SYSTEM you are using on your computer.

How do you connect a printer without a USB cord?

Is your printer 'wireless' or 'bluetooth'? If no, and there is no special HP cord and no parallel port, you cannot connect it. If it requires a wire, it REQUIRES a wire.

Ok, maybe you don't have one - most printers do not come with an appropriate cable. In this case, get one. They are available where ever computer supplies are sold. You ask for a USB Printer Cable. Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy, Radio Shack, other Big Box store, Joe Blow's computer repair shop. Don't have any such in your area, look at the advertisers here at You could always go back to the place you bought your printer and get one from them.

The 64 $ question is this: Is your new printer compatable with the Operating System on your computer? ... and how do you know this? Search "microsoft compatability list for (insert the name of your OS)". If your printer is listed by make and model for your OS, that means MS is supporting the printer. If it is NOT listed, MS is NOT supporting the printer, in which case you must go to or to look for a driver for your OS (NOT for your computer model, necessarily). If one is listed, you should get it. If none is listed, Dell will not support this printer when used by your OS. In this case, you are probably at the end of the road, though there is occasionally a driver available for some printers from third party developers.

Your computer tells you there is no Internet Explorer. Did you use the Windows Search function to look for this program? Start - Search - enter 'Internet Explorer'. When you find it, click on it and see what happens. There is a very good possibility that your short cut is no good. If that is the case, (you will know if the program shows up and runs) create a new shortcut. If it is not there, hopefully your computer is on a network and you can download the program from a variety of sources directly to the computer with no IE. If IE runs but tells you it is off line, click TOOLS, OPTIONS, unclick "work offline". Then try again.

There is no recognition of the USB cord but it is there. You see it, obviously, but the computer cant see it. Guess what, doesn't make any difference if you see it. Replace the cord. FYI, there is USB 1, USB 2 and USB 3 is waiting to be introduced. Which one do you have? Which one does your printer require?

I trust you will find these responses will address your issues and solve your trouble. If you need more assistance, please post a comment to this quesiton.

Trying to hook up my printer

Hook up the USB cord from printer to any free one on the PC. Once you power on the printer, the computer will detect a new device. It will ask for a driver. Insert the CD and wait. If you have the installation CD, you can also start with that and it should install the drivers. This would not be a LPT port but one of the USB. Id you already went though it, during install, have to do a manual selection and choose Have Disk and point to either the CD or any folder where you have the drivers on the computer.

could you try another cable, maybe the cable is the problem. If not, test the port if it detects other devices. If not disconnect the printer and install first the driver and then when it asks for the printer, hook it up.

What cords do i need to hook up the printer

Don't believe the stereotype about blondes being dumb. Here is a link for software and manuals for your printer. These are for WinXP. If you need the driver it is listed under software. Under guides and manuals you will find three including a quick start, setup and full manual. I advise downloading all three. YES, they have pictures. If you need Vista just add a comment and I'll come right back and show you where to find it although you can find it at same site. Good luck blondie. If you need more help just ask.
