My type writer is typing characters instead of the actual number and letters tyyping need to know how to correct

In order to type accented characters, you'll need to know the ASCII code of that character. You can check that out in the character map. This can be accessed in the following way:

• Click the Start button
• Click All Programs
• Clicking Accessories,
• Click System Tools
• Click Character Map.

Once you have the character map open, you can just highlight the character that you want, and the ASCII code will be displayed on the 'Character map' window.

In order to insert the character, go to the textbox where you need to insert it, hold down the 'Alt' key on the keyboard and type the number on the numeric keypad.

In case of a laptop, you'll need use the numbers on the numeric keypad. But there's no separate numeric keypad on a laptop, instead, the numbers are arranged on the same keys as the letters. They're separate from the numbers on the top line.

While typing on my Smith Corona KA13, suddenly different letters and characters would type instead of the ones I was typing. Like an "H" instead of an "R". An "S" instead of a "D"..... Any help please..

The problem with your Netbook seems to be that you have turned "NUMBER LOCK" or "NUM LOCK" on. This causes some of the letter keys, e.g U,I,O,J,K,L,M to be printed as numbers 0,1,2,3,4,5,6.

To turn this off, hold down the "FN" key (near the bottom left of the keypad) and then press "F11" and then release both keys.

Many brother type writers have two cam assemblies under ribbon holder. One operates the print hammer and the other operates the correction ribbon lift. sometimes they gets stuck or lock themselves up. turning on and off a few times will take care of it, but sometimes it needs to be worked on by a tech. If you look when you type a character, most likely the print hammer is not firing or it is striking the correction ribbon instead of the black ribbon.

When entering your characters for your selected "unlock" code/password be sure you have the correct character typed.

For example: Are you typing in a letter or a digit instead of the character wanted. Some think they are typing the number "5" say, but they never shifted and they are typing in a letter, like "D". Remember all keys have double representation.

look for a switch that says "Kybrd 1" and "Kybrd 2" and put it on Kybrd 1.

Does it always type the same wrong letter ie a always prints u or w ? if so the print wheel drive gear is out of position. if not and it get random letters some thing may be interfering with the wheel rotation.
