The very first XM radios, (SkyFi2, MyFi, Roady2) up until they were put in red boxes, had a VERY strong FM transmitter, so strong, that when Sirius was their enemy, they complained to the FCC and they made the FM transmitters real weaklings. So unless you have one of the first two batches of XM radios, the FM transmitters now are real junk and you're better off using an AUX input on the radio or a cassette tape adapter. Okay? Thanks.
Yes, you can buy an FM Direct adapter that will allow you to transmit directly to your car FM tuner, but if you have an older SkyFi2, the Fm transmitter is so strong, you can sit the radio on the floor and tune your car radio to your preset XM channel, like 107.1 FM and it will work great. Go into "Menu" and pick a channel that's not used locally.
Do you have a newer one (red and yellow box) or an older one (bubble box or white box?). If it says 'direct connect' in a reddish box it has a really cruddy FM modulator, if it is an older model from the clear plastic bubble box or white box, it has a really, really strong FM transmitter in it (so strong, the FCC outlawed it) and you can use it to transmit to an empty FM channel (within 50 feet of your radio!) So my answer is, simply go to the 'MENU" and under "FM Frequency" select an empty channel in your area, like 107.3MHZ and then set your car radio to 107.3 FM and it will come thru. You can also adjust the "Audio Level" in the MENU to make it even louder. Should work real well, Just check at the very ends of the FM band for channels first and try to set it 2 channels away from an active channel, so if you have a station on 106.5, you want to be on 106.9 or higher, etc.. Okay?
Ok, So s the FM modulator working or not? If everything is working then anything could have been the culprit. These units work much like computers and it's possible for glitches/freezes and even more serious things to occur being they are quite complex units. Has this problem occurred often? If so how old is the unit and the modulator and how long have you had this problem? Once I have more information I will be happy to assist you further. Thank you, Lee
If the Roady2 has a fm modulator built in, you can go to the menu and set the fm frequency. If it doesn't, you could use a fm transmitter that they have for mp3 players to listen to in the car
first you have to set a channel in your sat radio then tune your car radio to that channel go to menu and then to set fm frequency in your sat radio and choose one try to get one that does not have a station on it whatever you set it at just tune your car radio to that frequency and it will work
The original SkyFi's display was quite difficult to see in the sunlight. The glare was too much. The new unit's display is a different material, and sunken in to alleviate the problem of glare. The SkyFi2 also has TuneSelect. It was the first receiver to allow the user to enter the artist information for memory. Other units with TuneSelect only allowed song titles. It also added a 3rd bank of presets, allowing for 30 presets instead of the original's 20 presets. SkyFi2 added the option of a stock ticker, or sports score ticker in the display. The original SkyFi's option of 3 different displays included the channel number only, to be displayed. Also, there is a built in FM modulator so you can set the tune on the reciever... and yes you will be able to use all of your accessories.
1. Make sure your SKYFi2 is turned off. Unplug any accessory from SKYFi2’s audio jack. 2. Turn on an FM radio and place it close to your SKYFi2. 3. Tune the FM radio to each of the following FM frequencies: 88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7, 88.9, 106.7, 106.9, 107.1, 107.3, 107.5, 107.7, and 107.9. 4. Note the frequency that has no FM station or the least amount of interference. 5. Turn on your SKYFi2. 6. Press the “menu” button. 7. Use the scroll wheel to select “FM Frequency.” Press the “XM” button to confirm. 8. Use the scroll wheel to select the frequency noted in step 4. Press the “XM” button to confirm. 9. Press the “menu” button to return to the main menu and then again to return to the play screen. 10. You should now hear XM programming over your FM radio. If the sound is not clear or you hear interference or static, try another frequency by repeating the process above.
