The chain should go into a small hole on the housing that wraps around part of the motor. In order to connect the chain you will have to lower that portion of the housing cover some how. It should have a small portion of chain that you can still connect to. If it broke off inside the motor, you may not be able to fix that and may have to ask an electrician to the job, An electrician will be able to tell if you need a new fan motor or if it can be fixed. If you can take photos of it ( up close ones). You can email them to me and I may be able to assist you better.
