Gigabank powers on.....doesnt read onto my laptop.......Dell Inspiron 1525, that of which used to work fine at one time......cant retrieve any of my files....

From your description it sounds like your GigaBank is damaged. You can check if there are problems with the drive using the free trial version of http://www.hdtune.com/

If it checks out ok then you can try to recover your data with Recuva it's free http://www.piriform.com/recuva

Or if you need data recovery help this a good choice for low cost and fast data recovery. All data recovery work is performed by an experienced tech remotely over the Internet from a boot cd that you download and the best part is they just ask for donations: http://FreeDataRecovery.us

Computer does not read my gigabank 8.0; no access to data

hi,

These drives are pretty sturdy but it sounds like the USB control circuit may be dead.

If this is the case what to do next comes down to what's on the drive. If there is nothing important on the drive which isn't backed up somewhere else. Buy a new one for $30 and recopy the file on the new one. If you need the files on it you can send it out for data recovery, anywhere from $100-$1500 depending on which part failed. I know a few places able to help you if you need this option. If you need the pros reply back with your Country, State and City and I will refer you to an appropriate pro for the job.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

GigaBank 250 GB USB 2.0 External hard Drive - How to open case ?

Remove the cover plate from behind the drive (where the plugs and on/off switch are.) You have to then remove the 2 screws. After that pull on the end with the blue lights to slide the hard drive out. If you have a tower computer, you can permanently install the hard drive and it should work fine as a secondary drive. Just make sure the jumper pins are set to "slave".

Can not open Gigabank 8gb in windows xp

Read this article but only the Response section from
the site-reader:
http://www.hackphoto.com/2006/01/21/io-magic-gigabank-8gb/
Wow, you have purchased a "magical" device
that judging from the response from other owners like
you, its a disappointing investment :)

When you decide to crack it open and take the CompactFlash card to your card reader, you should aware
that you will suffer greater risks of damaging it, okay?
I have warned you :)

My Gigabank will not read on my computer anymore

We are seeing alot of posts reporting problems with these USB connected portable drives. Maybe this is one of those ideas that sounded good, but results in lots of headaches, lost data. First, try the drive on another machine- see if works there. In Control panel, select Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management... Does the drive appear there? It is possible the drive needs repartitioned/reformatted (not good for your data). You could take the USB drive case apart, check the interface cabling to the drive, and try it again. If it still doesn't work, try removing the drive and installing it in a desktop computer as a slave drive. I've only had one of these USB connected drive assemblies apart, but that one used a drive with a standard 40 position ribbon cable interface, the same as what is used on pre-SATA desktop systems. If you've gone this far, you could try removing the drive from the case, and installing it in a desktop machine as a slave drive, and seeing if you can get anything off it there. Diagnostic software from the manufacturer could also be run here too. None of this may get your project back however, unfortunately. For those highly important things, a backup is really suggested- and you know why- the hard way.

No detection or read

You could try to download and install FTK - Forensic Tool kit to grab the info. But sadly if the memory won't detect, your looking at having to use expensive software/hardware to grab the info.
