You can increase the earpiece volume by pressing the UP volume key (located on the side of the phone) *during* a phone call. I simply called my voicemail and once it connected, I hit the UP volume key and the volume meter displayed. Then I pressed it til it was the max and pressed SET. That worked for me, hope it works for you.

A temporary solution is plugging a wired headset into the phone and taking it out, it will work for a few hours.
you might want to try reinstalling the firmware for the phone. you will need to find a piece of software called lg download. and then also to find the drivers file called something like the vx8800dll.msi for the lg download software. then also need to find the firmware image file to flash onto it. try humpa's verizon downloads site. good luck
I had the same problem. What I did was plug the headset in pushed the buttons so I could hear the keypad beep. Then I quickly unpluged the headset. Hit the keypad and the sound was back. Hope it works.
