Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller

Xbox 360 Wired Controller Busted

Basically, my wired(not wireless) 360 controller is broken. It only turns on for a half a second at a time. If I move the cord in the right spot(spot varies) it'll turn on for a half second. Otherwise it stays off.

A month or so ago it would stay on for a while if I kept the controller wire at the right spot. All the buttons worked fine, there was no problem there. The mic. would work fine as well for XBL. As far as I can tell, nothing is wrong with my controller expect for the fact that it won't stay on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not exactly thrilled about the possibility of having to spend $40 for a new controller, you know?

Thanks!

okay well lets see what happened to mine, was that I was sitting down playing. and I got up, i forgot i had a remote on my lap and when i got up the remote flew and unplugged the controller, i tried to plug it in again but it plugs in fine from what i can tell, but it still won't come on. even on both connection ports, but still nothing. And I'm not too happy getting a brand new controller that breaks a week after i buy it... it did however unplug the break away, so I wonder...

Yeah I foudn the problem. I just found out one of the wires was broken inside, right above where the controler meets the wire. It was a grayish wire, probably the one that turns it on. No wonder it would only turn on if the wire was in a certain position, it was connecting the wires! Problem solved.

U said u moved the cable and it turned on for half a second so maybe the problem is that a cable inside was cut. its really easy to fix that just take the plastic off from were the cut is and get the cable that is cut and with your fingers put them back together now get your black tape and tape it all around were the cut is and when ur done just put more tape now connect your controller to the xbox 360 and it should work just fine.i had the same problem and i fix it myself.

  1. When the lights surrounding the power button on the console stop flashing, the controller is connected.
On the Xbox 360 S console, each connected controller is assigned to one of four positions. Each position corresponds to a lighted section around the console power button and the controller Guide button. On the 360 E console, a solid green light on the front of the console indicates that the controller is connected. To determine the player position associated with your accessory, look at the ring of light that surrounds the Guide button on the controller.

You can also use the Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit or the Xbox 360 Quick Charge Kit to power the controller. Learn more about Xbox controllers and chargers.
To connect additional controllers, follow these same steps again. You can connect up to four controllers to the console. Each connected controller is assigned a position that corresponds with the lighted sections that appear around the console's power button and around the Guide button located in the middle of each controller.
  • To disconnect a wireless controller, press and hold the Guide button for three seconds, and then choose to turn the controller off.
  • When you turn off the console, the controller will reconnect the next time you turn on the console.
  • The controller can be connected to only one console at a time. You can connect the controller to a different console, but the connection to the previously connected console will be lost.

Wireless controller troubleshooting
If your wireless controller disconnects or cannot connect to your console, see Xbox 360 Wireless Controller disconnects or can't connect.
If your wireless controller does not turn on or loses power, try the following solutions:
Solution 1: Replace the batteries
Insert a new set of AA alkaline batteries into the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, and then try to turn it on.
Solution 2: Try a different battery pack
If you have another Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, take the battery pack off that controller and attach it to your controller. Then try to turn your controller on.
If your controller works with the different battery pack, your original battery pack might be defective. If your controller is under warranty, you can order a replacement battery pack from Xbox Support . See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.
If your controller is out of warranty, you can buy a new battery pack from a retail store.
Solution 3: Try a rechargeable battery packIf you or a friend has an Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack, attach that battery pack to your controller and try to use your controller. If your controller works with the rechargeable battery pack attached, you can buy a new battery pack from a retail store or order a replacement battery pack from Xbox Support. See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.

How do i reactivate the wireless controller to my xbox 360

How to Configure an Xbox Controller Fotolia.com"> configure-xbox-controller-800x800.jpg Configure you Xbox controller.

The Xbox 360 utilizes two types of controllers: wired and wireless. Like most operations on a video game console, configuring a controller requires little effort. You can either plug the controller into a port on the Xbox 360, or sync a wireless controller using the console's built-in controls.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions

  1. Wired
    • 1 Connect the controller's cable to the in-line release cord. This cord prevents you from accidentally pulling the Xbox 360 along with your controller during game play.
    • 2 Insert the in-line release cord's USB plug into the USB port on the front of the console.
    • 3 Turn on the console to activate the controller automatically.
    Wireless
    • 1 Insert batteries in your wireless controller, if necessary.
    • 2 Hold down the "Guide" button on the controller.
    • 3 Push the Xbox 360's "Connect" button, located on the front of the console.
    • 4 Push the controller's "Connect" button to sync it with the Xbox 360.

Characters walk around in circle and move backwards .Just bought Modern warfare 2.character won't walk forward only backwards and in circles.same problem in Grand theft Auto Games. My console is xbox 360...

It sounds like you have controller issues, try using another controller and see if they still walk circles. If the joystick is not in the centre home postion when you turn on console it will read left/right/etc as the centre. Also try using a different battery in the controller, mine has the same charging issue and i found that jiggleing the plug and play cord can sometimes turn the charger cord from green(or nothing) to red. Good luck..
