I have a Stanley T 130 garage door opener that sometimes will not stay down, but immediately raise back up when it hits the bottom. There are no obstructions. I do not have a manual and haven't been able to find one online. Any suggestions? Thank you

SOURCE: Garage door opener won't work

you should have installed a emergency key release !, it,s a cylinder that you put a key into and pull out a cable thats attached to your emergency release inside the garage , right now you would have been in already , but since you never installed one lets deal with the problem at hand , answer me this : do you have power inside the garage ,are you certain that the breaker is on ,did you have any recent power failures ?, because the circuit board on your machine could be fried from a close lightning stike , and i,ve seen it a thousand times , also your capacitor on your machine may be shot ! is your door wood or steel? if its wood drill out a 3 inch hole saw hole on the top panel either to the left or right of the center wooden cross member , now get a flashlight and look for a emergency relese rope , after you have located it,make yourself a coathanger with a hook at the end ,tug at the rope until your able to pull at the handle thats attached to the rope once you are able to release the door from the carriage assembly keep pressure on the handle and have someone else lift the door and when you want to fix the hole you made just simply glue the circle cutout back in place , good luck and do what i say to get in , please leave a nice rating if i was able to help you ,sincerely glenn

Why is my garage door suddenly reversing when going down?

Deb, that reversal is a child safety device - if the bottom edge of the door detects contact with any object, it'll immediately reverse so it doesn't kill a child. Or a cat, dog, whatever.

The opener mechanism should have a stop switch that prevents the door from closing hard against the floor - that stop switch needs to be adjusted so that the door will stop JUST before hard contact. That'll take care of it "bouncing" off the floor & reversing. As to it reversing before it touches the floor... examine both guide rails closely to see if there's any obstruction that the door's bottom edge may be contacting to trigger the child protection reversal switch.

The stanley garage door opener Model 3220.51 is about 20 years old. Although there is nothing at the bottom of the door, the door senses that there is something and the door comes back up on its own. The...

If it is a screw drive like mine all I needed to do was lube up the screw with a product called "fluid film" and all was ok. The screw was binding making the sensor think the door was blocked and it would go back up.

Garage door will not stay closed. hit remote button when door is down to keep it closed

Assuming that you do not have anything interfering with the obstruction sensor located at the bottom/sides of the door opening, you most likely will need to adjust the "force-down" control. This control switch should be located on the power-head of your opener. An arrow should indicate direction to turn to increase the force down. You must be careful not to increase it too much or you will create a crushing danger for pets and children. Turn only a little at a time until a test keeps the door closed. You must then place an obstruction under the door (1 inch tall) to make sure it still reverses when an obstruction is met. Sometime temperature conditions will affect the correct operation of the opener and it will need readjustment.

Door closes but bounced back immediately. No lights blinking, no obstruction, we turned the down forced clockwise, but unable to fix it. I did notice the roll bar is not stopping at the end of the track...

It is not the down force, but the distance the operator tries to push the door down. Sometimes this changes (I'm not sure why). Locate the dial on the opener that sets the down amount and reduce it. Once you get the door to stay down, check the down force again to ensure that it's not too much.

When closing my garage door, the door reaches bottom and immediately reverses upward. Unfortunately, I don't have a manual...

If the door hits the floor, pauses for a couple of seconds and then reverses to the open position it is because it is traveling too far in the down direction. Locate the 'down limit' control on the side of the motor unit and turn this control in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will be necessary.

It sounds like the door is traveling too far in the down direction. When it hits the floor the safety causes it to reverse to the open position. You need to adjust the 'down limit' not the force.

My garage door sometimes gets stuck and then goes

Don't tighten the chain. It sounds like you have either a broken door spring or the drive gear in the motor unit is going bad. Release the opener from the door and operate it by hand. It should be easy enough to raise that your wife can do it with no problems and it should stay put when released about waist to shoulder high.

Garage door repeatedly drops after opening.

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear.

My older Craftsman garage door opener comes down about 6" & then goes back up. I just replaced all the rollers o& the opener worked fine. Then I tightened the chain on the opener & it worked ok...

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door goes back up it is a door sensor problem. You chain should sag just a little. If you tighten it too much it will click as it goes over the sprocket. You can increase the down force which is an adjustment near where all those white wires go. A 1/4 turn should be enough. Release the door from the opener and operate it by hand. It should move freely and when you have the door approximately waist high it should stay put. Neither raising nor closing.
