This tv is a DLP one - the image is created in a special chip with tiny mirrors on it; each mirror is commanded individually by an image processor that in your tv is starting to fail.
The replacement of the mainboard on which this processor is soldered would cost you about $300 - i don;t think the tv is worth as much. Keep using it for as long as you can and use this time to save for a new one.

My sony television is developing an increasing number of blue dots across the screen. It is a Sony LCD model # KDF-42WE665 I have already reaplaced a bulb to the tune of $350.00 about 2 years ago and now...

This blue dots problem is due to defective blue lcd and related uv filters/ polarizers in optic block (light engine) and optic block will be replace to fis that issue.
It would be costly fix and an experienced tech is needed to do the job. You can expect $1000 repair cost.
Thanks.

Lots of small blue dots

The Optical Block is the most likely cause. It has been known for this problem. The cost of the Optical block in this model series is approx. 600.00 or so.
I am not sure if Sony will deal with a Consumer on a one on one basis for this part because of the cost of the part. You can check with Sony at 1800-222-SONY.
I hope this helps,

Problem with tv

Could be a horizontal output fault, faulty power supply, a simple dry solder joint or HVT. If you can hear arcing or smell an ozone odour, it will be the HVT which may cost a bit.

Without knowing the actual cause, it's impossible to say how much it would cost to fix it.... could be anywhere from $50 to $250 etc

Best to have it checked by a technician and get a quote to repair... then decide if you think it's worth it.

Toshiba is generally a reliable brand, so if you were happy with the picture quality before the fault occurred, it's probably worth repairing.

Cheers

Samsung Le32r51bd

I have been having the same problem. It started as constant white dots obscuring the menu but as you hardly use the menu I left it. Then I had a row of white dots 5 dots high all the way across the screen about two thirds of the way up. This only happened on Ext1 and Ext 2. I tried 3 different Scart and A/V cables in ALL the possible connections in the back and still I got the dots. This has gradually got worse and I now have a screen full of flashing dots. With it being out of Warranty (18 month old) I have been referred to a company to repair it.
Estimated cost £263.37 inc VAT  Diagnosis: Needs a new PCB board Time to fix: 1 week
I shall update once I know more/final cost, on Wednesday.
In future I shall be taking the extended warranty out. :o(
