My computer does not shut down and my ups does not give me battery backup when power is cut off

First, check that the battery inside the UPS is taking a charge, and holding the charge.
Disconnect all devices from the UPS.
Connect something simple to one of the "protected" sockets, e.g., radio or table lamp.
Turn the radio/lamp on.
Disconnect the UPS from the wall-outlet, to simulate a power-failure.
Does the radio/lamp continue to work?
If not, the battery inside the UPS needs to be replaced.
If it does work, for how many minutes does it work, i.e., how much power can it provide?

Second, check that you have some wire (serial-cable or USB-cable) connecting the UPS to your computer, so that the UPS can signal to your computer that the AC power has been interrupted.

Third, check that the computer software that came with the UPS is installed, and is "talking" to the UPS, i.e., to receive the "alert" message from the UPS.

Dear Yared,

Did you try to give the UPS some time to recharge the batteries?
Seems like the batteries have reached their cut-off voltage and are not supplying enough voltage to the inverter.

Normally the dc boos circuit of the UPS will supply voltage to the DC BUS so maybe the problem can be found in the dc boost circuit or BUS if recharging the batteries is not helping.

Hello..my UPS was fully discharged and packed upto 2months, 2 months ago , i was taking 20 min backup from it.but now its not giving any backup when power off.....plz suggest..

hold the reset button on UPS for 30secs while the power is turned on...
Then keep the UPS on charge for 16 hours with no load...
then check for the backup... while you shut down the computer you should not turn off the power supply to UPS...

Is there any problem connecting Inverter and UPS in series for backup to computer?

Why would you want to do this?
The UPS has it own battery and inverter and can supply power to the computer/server and if the power interruption is too long and the battery power is unable to maintain power to the computer/server, it can initiate a shutdown procedure so the computer/server can shut down in an orderly fashion without losing data.
The size of the UPS with its batteries and the power requirements of the computer/server can be calculated to give a a capacity from as little as 30 mins to hours.
There is no need to run a separate charger, batteries and inverter to supply power to an UPS (it has all these buint-in) and it is an unnecessary additional complication.

ups may not be true on line, type so sometimes when power outage happens there can be a very small break in supply. this can cause load items to shut down
get good quality on line ups.

Dell Dimension Shut Down

Hi

You query suggest you have Dell Dimension 3000. Dell Dimension 3000 is a desktop PC and does not have a battery backup by itself.

I am assuming the battery backup you are referring to is a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). If this is correct then by your description of the issues, the UPS may be faulty (indicated by the Red light and beeping).

Disconnect the computer's power cord from the UPS and connect it to a wall power outlet to confirm or rule out the UPS as the offending device.

Dynex Te685avr backup battery doesnt work

If the battery outlets do not work, typically the Dynex TE685AVR UPS (battery backup) just needs a new battery. These batteries usually last 3-5 years.
