On most TVs, all the picture and sound adjustments are made through on-screen menus. To get to them, you need the original TV remote control (or a compatible replacement) with the proper MENU functions. On some sets there's one main menu to work through, while others have separate buttons for picture and sound control settings.
Some brands and models of TV have a front-panel menu button. Maybe yours does. Sadly, though, many sets now have just a power button and need the remote control for everything else. The biggest trouble I find is that people get used to using the remote that comes with a cable box, satellite receiver or similar device which will turn the TV on and off but that's all. The original remote mysteriously gets lost (I've actually run into people who threw the original control out because they didn't think they needed it), and then you find you can't get at any other TV settings. It's especially annoying if you can't switch to another input, say for a game console or DVD player.
Hopefully, you still have your control. Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!
