Scanner is not detecting device. I guess it means my computer? I have an 3380 all in one printer...and I can't scan any documents. Is there a location I can take the printer into for service? I live in Pasadena, CA 91105 Thanks Andrea

There should be a scan program on the pc or a scan button on the scanner itself. You can go to the brother website and see if you can find a downloadable program for this unit. Alternatively, if the scanner is 'seen' by the pc, you can search your Windows program for "Windows Fax and Scan" from which you can select "Scan", if the printer is seen it will do the job, if not, it will tell you "No Scanner found".
If the scanner is not found, you can go to "Device Manager" and do a scan of the pc to detect "Plug and Play" devices. This should find the scanner.

The first thing that you must do is make sure that the device is already installed to your computer. Insert the document to be scanned on the scanner. Double click the icon of your scanner and on the option menu click scan. After the scanning process, open the My Picture folder of your computer and locate the image file.

normally there would be some software that came with the printer that has scanning utility in it so I guess by putting your document face down on the scanner with the lid on it you could find the scan software on your computer. Sorry I can't help any more than this, but you haven't told us the make or model of the printer/scanner.

I guess that the printer is missing scan driver, please reinstall the printer software.

It means you need the HP scanning software running on your computer. The computer tells the scanner how to scan, what to scan and where to save the image after scanning. The scanner has no options until received from your computer.

You need to control the scanner thru your PC with canon software that came with your scanner otherwise you cant scan anything..first open the printer/scanner software ,select scanner,then place your document and command "scan" on your PC..thats it..

WHen you open the scan application and get to the point just before you scan... open at the top menu "File" and request to "Save As" and give it the "Name.BMP" see if that helps..
You named the folder but you did not mention naming the file you want to save????

Scanner utility is pretty much come with the software. You can input the paper like you input for fax, either on the top scanner or the scanner itself and then just press scan on your printer. It will automatically scan to your computer. Please make sure your computer is connected to the printer.
