New PC has been used to upgrade old PC. The problem is the PC wont install the Switch device properly. i have added two PS2-USB converters, as new PC does not come with PS2 slots. PC is Windows XP. Model number 1016-02. Do you know please of any drivers?

then you have to line up the black plastic with the purple socket on the back on the pc . If the P.C doesn't have a purple socket you will need a usb keyboard or a PS2 to USB converter plug thingy.

usb to ps2 converter, the sell them for like 30$ but you can go to radioshack and buy a keyboard for that with the little adapter

Get a "Serial to PS2 converter" or a "Serial to USB converter" from the market. Now connect one and of the converter (the 9 pin side) to the keyboard and the other side to the PC.
Make sure that all USB functionality is enabled in the BIOS, especially USB Legacy Mode.

Yes in window 7 it gives some issues as you need to get the proper driver software for windows 7.

You may not need drivers; try plugging your scanner in after Win boots. If you get a box stating that WIn has 'found' a new device, it may install a basic driver for USB.
Otherwise, check the scanner mfr.'s website for drivers that you may need.

It appears that you have an IBM desktop whose BIOS isn't capable of booting off of a USB keyboard and mouse device. Older computers used to require that a PS2 mouse and keyboard be attached before booting, to prevent you from booting a machine without any way of controlling it. You have 3 options:

1. leave the corded mouse and keyboard attached and never use them
2. update the BIOS for your desktop to the newest one in hopes that the updated BIOS will allow for USB mouse and keyboard operation
3. go to a computer store and get a PS2 to USB converter/adapter. They're small and relatively inexpensive. It plugs into the PS2 port, and makes your computer think that there's a PS2 device connected, when it's actually a USB device.

The round purple connector is refered to as "PS/2" type connector. You can find an adapter that converts PS/2 to USB connector. The above link was just to show what I was refering to. Hope this helps.

maybe the devices are both defective or you mistakaly plug it to the wrong ps2 port.check its pin.

KVMs are very complex. the hard part is the vast number of different PC.
USB , PS2, VGA, DVI and HDMI.. yah,..
OK 16 +2=18 x ps2, and 9 VGA ports. it is.
NO KVM does it all, ,, old KVM' do NOT work , on new computers, all folks know this , if they tried. or took readings to learn why it fails.

40 KVM? that what you said, really? (or 40/8=5 kvm)?
my guess is the adaptor does not work or power issues

The KVM in most cases, here, steals power from PS2 ports but not this KVM , its better.
i'd bet that adaptor cant do that.

lets see tests:
1: pin 4 ps2 5vdc?
2: mouse glows?
3: keyboard led , caps lock toggles? (glows)
4: lost the hot key commands (y/n)

one other problem is the BIOS in the server may not like your adaptor at all. When BIOS scans the keyboard. it expects a ID response if missing or grabled, it drops that device port.

btw, one way to cure this, is run headless server software
end KVM for ever.

i run a LAMP server, that comes in the box, no kvm no any thing on ports. it has a web page to go to and do service that way.

in a server farm, a keyboard/mouse/monitor on rolling cart
for the super sick servers is best...

the other problem is USB only PC or server
does not scan PS2 ports, it has none
so if the adaption fails, at boot time, all is lost.
(BIOS reports connected devices to the OS)(unstated by you)so if the report fails, problems happen
for sure after the boot.

this device is s business device, now ("Enterprise)

infact the compaq server that had them is turned off. (grin)
