Kathy, There should be a certification plate on the stove some where, listing make, model, year of manufacture, etc., open doors/drawers etc. to see if tag is riveted on inside panel or frame. Check the attached links they may help determine the age of your stove, Good luck.

As a farmer's son in Shepparton, Victoria, we have always had a Metter woodstove/cooktop combination that provided heat as well as cooking food. I guess there are a lot of Metters stove still around since the founder, Frederick Metter, started his production of stoves in Adelaide in 1891. Although it was just a wood stove to us without taking much notice of its history, we still have one at our old farm homestead. But I could help you find what you want by contacting the retailer of these stoves, it all depends where you live, and you could find even spare parts for your stove, or from there you could continue with your research by asking the dealer for information. Since Vermont Castings has gone through 3 different ownerships in the past 10 years, the chances of finding the manual, for your discontinued model are slim and none. Having been a VC dealer up until 5 or 6 years ago, my data base is pretty complete. However, the Model 1982 Intrepid I Non-catalytic Wood Burning Stove doesn't even show up there. If the dealer you purchased you stove from is still in business & is still a VC Dealer, that would be the best place to start. As, his records would go back further than mine. But, I must caution you, many dealer like myself, dropped the Vermont Castings line, during the last part of it's Ownership, by Majestic Fireplace Corp. VC is now owned my Monessen Hearth Hearth Systems.
