I was using the mybook to store all my music. Now, my mac won't read the drive when I plug it in and the blue indicator lights on the mybook just remain steadily on, without flashing at all. I would like to fix it or at least be ablel to copy all my music files off the drive. help?

I had the same problem and I solved it. Slip off the black case and replace the part thats broken. its cheap. $10 here is the link: http://www.centrix-intl.com/details.asp?productid=9501 I HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!
The essential edition is a single drive unit. if you have another computer you could pull the drive out of the enclosure and connect it directly to the computer to retrieve your data. I use an external usb 2.0 to IDE/Sata adapter that connects to the drive and the PC. These can be found online for $10.00-$15.00. This adapter has saved me many times in the past. The other option is to connect the MyBook to another computer (Mac or PC) and see if that computer will read the drive correctly or not.
Try using the western digital knowledge base info to help you resolve the problem...click here.
Otherwise, we need the full model # and the OS you're using to give better solutions....

load the driver for mac use, the external hard drive comes with cd, the mac driver should be inside, load it to your mac computer. if you donot have the cd go online to western digital and download it. just load the driver and u will be fine, make sure u connect the cable in right places.
1) Go to support.wdc.com
2) Click Downloads
3) Select MyBook, then your MyBook model (I selected MyBook Home, as it was appropriate to my hardware)
4) Download and install the WD Drive Manager (Mac)
Note that this software only updates the utilities that control the power button, drive lights, and capacity gauge. If the drive is otherwise not functioning properly, you'll probably need to seek alternate support: the hardware itself functions just fine for me as an external drive without installing any additional software or drivers.
