eMachines ET1161-07 Desktop PC Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jun 01, 2011

Emachines et1161-07 freezes up at E logo screen, sometimes with distorted graphics, sometimes not. Eventually, it will let me sign on normally (have also done a restore), and will work for a day or so, then same thing will happen. Any ideas? Thanks.

Your computer may be getting too hot, it needs a service. Clean your computer of dust, use a vacuum cleaner. Air has to circulate through the CPU cooler as well as the Graphics card. Distorted graphics is a sign of overheating. Also be sure to clean the gold fingered contacts on the graphics card. Do not remove the CPU cooler from the CPU unless you apply fresh thermal interface compound.

Contact a computer technician to perform the service if you are unsure.

Take care!

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try cleaning any dust out of it and see if that helps.

Computer started up no problem after cleaning. No more distorted E logo screen. Got the blue screen one time, restarted, and it's been working fine for the past 3 days no problems. Thanks for the help damnor.

My laptop usually have problem with start up or sometimes it will freeze with distorted screen with vertical lines, what seems to be the problem?

It is the graphic controller problem. That is , the GMCH. If the system have a seperate graphic card, you can replace it with new one if available. If the GMCH is onboard, then you can repair it by heating if you are a technician. I will only be satisfied if you replied to this. So make a reply.

Screen is distorted and split into 6-8 images at startup. This happens even during the bios screen. Eventually it blue screens and fails to boot....

You probably need to send it to HP and have them replace the video card. If the video card is still good make sure you try to upgrade the driver for that card.

A bad video card can disrupt a computer in many ways, and seeing distortion on the screen is a sure sign of video card failure or the corruption of it's hardware driver program.

Console freezes on logo screen during startup. Will eventually boot after 5 or 6 restarts

The freeze ups normally happen before the red lights of doom and they are caused by the GPU and the CPU getting too hot and the soldering snaps off so they lose connection.

If you stop the heat build up you will be fine.

You can do this yourself using a good repair guide or you can send it in and they will fix it for you.

Monitor freezes up with multicolor wording or distorted images

Sounds to me like a few possible things...

1) Bad connection to the monitor, check the cable connection, if you see or suspect any damage, buy a new monitor or test with a friend's monitor.

2) Video card could be bad, if it has a video card, you could simply buy a new card to see if it will fix the problem. If the video port is attached to the motherboard (meaning onboard video), the motherboard could be damaged.

3) The motherboard could be bad. Sometimes fried motherboards will garble the screen like this on bootup.

Monitor

Adjust the pixels. Right click on desktop, properties, appearences, advanced and there should be a slide bar to adjust your pixels. Make them larger, ex. 1440X900 instead of 680X400

Computer screen graphics are distorted

It may be a corrupt driver, if you are running xp then go to my computer, right click>properties>hardware>device manager and look down list for graphics adapter. Click on the '+' sign select your graphics adapter and right click and delete. Restart your pc and and xp will find your graphics again and automatically install the drivers.
