Suddenly without any problems for almost 2 years my remote control stopped working. I replaced the batteries, and still would not work. I went to Radio Shack and bought a universal remote, but I have tried without success to program the universal remote. I tried autoprogram, manual, and every code, but nothing worked. I tried the univesal remote on another TV and it worked fine.

Did you try changing the battery? Unlikely to be the fan, but it could be the receiver.

yes it has a battery and if the signal is too weak it will not have enough power to send the signal to the car

You must 'reset' the remote. I've had it happen quite a few times.
1. Turn off power to fan. Then back on.
2. Using remote cycle the following fan buttons from high to med to low, then from low to med to high again. That 'should' fix the problem.

there is a easier way to check your remote.
Open your radio on AM frequencies, you don't need to be tuned just noise is perfect, then bring your remote near the antenna and press some button. You will ear the frequency in your radio. If it works this way but not on the TV make sure to press the TV button before using it (if the remote is universal).

There is a battery in the hand held remote and another battery in the receiver which gets tucked into the ceiling mount cover. Remove the ceiling cover and you will see the battery there, usually a 12 volt battery.

The upp/down slide is a dimmer.

Ok I just dealt with the Sharp customer support for this problem.

1) You need to unplug the TV for 1 full minute and remove the batteries from your remote aswell (this will reset the system)
2) Hold the power button on the remote for 30 seconds with the batteries still out of the remote and the TV still unplugged
3) After the 30 seconds replace batteries then press every button on the remote beginning with the power button in order from left to right and top to bottom (same way you read)
4) Then plug your tv back in and try the remote again.... and the remote and TV should be back in sync.
