Bag Full Sensor

I have an Epic 6500 SR and the full bag light will not go out after I changed the bag. Based on another post it sounds like the full bag light switch is sticking. How do I get to that switch ? Thanks

I removed everything as described but what do you do with the sensor valve or sensor?

I have the same problem but am having difficulties to open the top of half of the unit after I removed the two side rubbers. Could someone explain in more detailed, how much prying is needed? Thanks.

Opening The Unit:
Remove the hose, open the door, and remove the bag. Making sure that the door is open wide enough, pull the rubber strip on each side of the canister toward the opening until they are completely removed. With a little shifting, you will now be able to pry open the top cover from the bottom. Remove the obstruction sensor hose so that you can completely separate the halves.
Note: If the strips will not move toward the front, the you will have to slide them off to the rear. You will need two screwdrivers to pry open the top rear of the unit far enough to release the back cover.

Locating The Switch:
The "trip" switch is located on the inside top cover under the power button. The trip switch is activated by the sensor valve next to it.

Its a bad controll valve i would take it to a vacuum shop so you don't break your expensive vacuum trying to pry it appart.

What does the warning light with question mark mean on the Electrolux Epic 6500 SR canister?

It means to check the bag. Your bag is either missing or misaligned and has slipped past the little clear sensor or bag lockout plunger in the corner of the bag chamber at the door.
Remove the bag turn on the vac and push this switch, the vac should start when the switch is depressed. If not the internal switch inside the vac is misaligned or damaged. Please post back to confirm how you make out

What size/model bags do I need for my Electrolux Epic 6500 SR vacuum?

You need an Electrolux Cannister bag to fit pre 2001 Series cannisters. You can fin them at a VAC Service center or thru AERUS Electrolux. Buy only a 4 ply bag, nothing thinner.

What is the symbol above the "change bag" symbol?

When the bag is full, the "full bag" light will come on and will turn itself off. Replace bag (make sure there is no clog) and try again.
Hope this helps.

Vacuum won't stay on

When you open the canister you eill see a little rubber hole that senses when your bag is full. This must be clogged. If you have another vac try to vacume all the dusr from this hole and any other opening inside the vacume that you can reach. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate this answer.

Does the epic 6500 sr have to have a bag in it to start?

Yes, you must have a bag in it for it to run. This is a protection feature so that the motor isn't damaged. You can bypass it just to see if it runs by depressing the small button in the lower front right hand corner of the bag housing. If you open the front, you should see it. Just press it while the machine is switched to "on", and it should come on. Good Luck, and great buy!!

My Electrolux upright worked fine

Are you using the proper bag? There's a kill/reset switch that needs to be pushed down by the rim of the bag before the unit will run.

Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly

The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.
